I caught the biggest brook trout I've seen in my life on MAGENTEWAN lake Friday night. I didn't measure it or weigh it but if I had to guess it was at least 3LB and 22 inches! Everyone I've ever talked to said there is nothing in that lake! I seen it come to the surface to feed about 20 feet out from my campsite so I casted a spoon out and it hit it within a second of it hitting the water. I didn't get any photos though unfortunatly as it was getting dark and I had no intentions on keeping him so I released as fast as I could! So I'll include a photo of my catch yesterday instead.. nothing record breaking though..

Zen & AT - great shots!
The itch is real. I'll be getting my line wet in APP this weekend, hopefully some new PB's to follow. With the season underway I think the photo's will be flowing.

I'm part of a camp that borders a southern lake of APP. While not really a backcountry trip, it's very remote access and I'll technically still be fishing Algonquin waters ![]()

How did everyone fair this weekend?
I'll be wringing and drying everything out for the next week.
The bite was red hot right before the rain started. I had assumed it would cool down with the storm sitting put but I was wrong.
New PB - 24 inches, 3.2 lbs.

are you over your limit for algonquin park? 2 lakers allowed reg license 1 for a conservation tag?
you did not mention that you were fishing with others? you kept saying "i" in the above posting? pity
He said hes part of a camp so I'm assuming he wasn't alone. He also said it's close to the edge of A.P.P. so no guarantee they were caught within the park.

Why must you assume the worst of people Swede? That was our boats limit for the day. Two guys with sport licenses. Part of a larger group even.

Just because I'm somewhere doesn't mean I'm alone.
Nice catch. Hope you had a great day.

Swede, found your calling buddy. Feel free to put me down as a reference.
Jdbonney - Cheers, it was a stellar weekend for the bite.

Hey Swede
I for one appreciate your comments regarding responsible fishing!
Thank you!

My buddies biggest Algonquin bass. This donkey weighed in at just over 5lbs.
Nothing fights like an Algonquin small mouth!
Also, has anyone else noticed they tend to bite while releasing them?

basilthegood, I was just south of the Park on the 7th and for whatever reason the bite was on where I was as well, think a major bug hatch had a lot to do with it, even during the snow storm. l'm going to say I fished from roughly 10:00 am - 2:00pm. caught Lakers on 4 different presentations and all pretty much in 1 area, sure they had come into the shallower water to feed on the bugs hatching, lures where EGB, Diving Body Bait, Jig and plastic Grub and a Senko worm. EGB was Black and Silver. Plastic Grub was White as was Senko. lost a few on the jig and grub as they would hit it and drop it.
Also from my experience on other """"FISHING FORUMS"""" When people get bashed for posting their fish in Pictures they tend to never post pictures of their CATCH anymore. just my 2 cents.

Nobody here would ever ignore responsible fishing advice or comments. Nobody here appreciates unsubstantiated accusations either.

It was a crazy successful weekend. Far exceeded my expectations especially with the storm. I'd say over Friday-Sunday I brought in and released 15 or so fish. I had the most success with EGB's and Little Cleos, but the big fish of the weekend was actually caught on a dressed black fury. Lost a few hot lures as well which I promptly replaced.
Only one way to combat that eh, keep the pictures coming ![]()
vanslyke - that's a hog! Can't wait to head into some smallie waters this summer. I caught a few incidentals while trout fishing last weekend and immediately knew what was on my line.

I haven't actually caught a Trout in the park since I was a kid and that one was a nice little Brookie. Since then my pb is a 24", six and a half pound Rainbow and I just hooked in to these for Trout opener (but on the Credit somewhere)
