Two weeks until we can go camping (assuming the lockdown doesn't get extended again), here's hoping the black flies have started tapering a little bit by then - or failing there, here's hoping it's windy!
As Jdbonney said, a New York plate in and of itself doesn't mean a great deal. For all we know they've emigrated to Canada and live in Huntsville.

If I can find the time I might write up my own list!
One thing I noted is your comment about getting water to pass through your Platypus filter. I have the same filter, and it's air in the lines / filter that causes that issue. After there's a little bit of water in the clean bag, do you then hold it up for a few seconds? It pushes out the air and then water flows through super fast.

Well, the 10 dehydrated meals I ordered two days ago arrived today, so go Altitude Sports!

I recently switched my longstanding MEC loyalty over to Altitude Sports. And by "recently" I mean I ordered a bunch of dehydrated meals from them yesterday. Here's hoping they have stock!

Those two would only fall into the same category if you're travelling 4 hours to get to your tennis court ;).

Not sure what their source is, and I'm not seeing it posted anywhere else just yet. But I always found it unlikely that they'd reopen the province right as the May long weekend kicks off, so it wouldn't surprise me.

If they reopen Dickson my Spring plans are going to change in a heartbeat.
Trip Planning » Bonfield-Dickson or Unicorn Hill? » 5/05/2021 4:49 am |
You'll be fine either way. I took two family members over the Dickson-Bonfield on their first ever camping trip and they managed it no problem. It's long, but it's flat with good footing throughout. Unicorn Hill will be over faster, but it'll be less fun while you're doing it.
The Crow near Big Crow will have some stretches you'll be dragging, but everything after the 1220m will be fine.

I've tried that link a few times since you posted it, and the link (for that matter the entire website) doesn't appear to work. Interesting that it works for Gord!
Edit: sorted out the issue.

You can't hold two bookings at one time. Unless you made the other booking in your wife's name then transferred it to you. Combing all the Ontario Parks reservation angst into one thread. LOL!
In order to properly follow the rules, I'll put the second reservation in my wife's name, list it on Kijiji and buy it from her. Wait, that can't be right.
And yeah, I know a lot of people will be heading up regardless, but from a camping perspective I feel like maybe they're going to prefer a soft opening. The first day of camping season being the start of the May long weekend just doesn't sound like a sane idea.
But I guess we'll know soon enough!

Anyone else think it's incredibly unlikely Ontario will re-open the province exactly in time for the May long weekend? Could you imagine the exodus to cottage country that day?
I have a trip booked that starts on Friday the 21st, but I feel like I should be hedging my bets and making another booking for just after the long weekend.
Trip Planning » Trips before May 21 cancelled by Ontario Parks » 4/24/2021 4:57 pm |
My May 14th trip was cancelled as well. Which is fine.. with the early ice-out that route wasn't a good one anyway with the bugs out in full swing - smallish lakes, lots of portaging. I have a "big lakes tour" booked starting on the 21st, so here's hoping that one goes off - and that it's windy.
Not looking forward to climbing Unicorn Hill with a week's worth of food and a NoBugZone though.

Well, I just made a booking starting May 21st. A week of mosquitoes and black flies, or a week of staying home because I'm still not allowed to go camping.
I'm not sure which option I'm rooting for right now ;).

It looks very cool, but it's hard to play around with it much when you're restricted to a single waypoint. I appreciate you guys deserve to get paid for your hard work, but you may want to relax the lockdown a little bit while it's still in beta if you're hoping for feedback and bug reports.

I just kept clicking Next on the tool tips (of which there are a ton) and then tip 14 popped up as "congratulations, you just built your first Paddle Planner trip!". Except I hadn't actually done anything yet except click Next!

Amazing! Playing with it now, will definitely provide feedback.
