LOL! Sure

Just remind me when the time comes!

This is getting super off topic now, but if anyone is curious about how Unlostify came to be you can check out this post from my now-partner, Deki: http://www.myccr.com/phpbbforum/viewtopic.php?f=107&t=46390 (I ended up joining him just over a month after that was written)

@ATVenture - Yup! There will be various digital versions of our new maps too

The only limitation is that some new features (that we haven't shown yet) don't work. It'll all make sense when you see what they are and how they function - it's pretty obvious what works where.

Anyhow, rather than continuing to talk in riddles, I'll just say you'll be happy regardless of how you use the map :D

(We'll be sharing these new so-far unrevealed features starting tomorrow and continuing next week :D)

Mine didn't have spiral bindings and the cover was blurry, but I got 4 for the price of 3.  2 are still alive and two died hero's deaths on trips.

Really happy to hear about all this Jeff.  Can't wait to see what you've got in store.

Holy! Now those are originals!

I'm testing my memory here, but I think there were just over 100 of those ever made. At some point a year or so later I bought a printer and spiral binder and started doing them myself.

Lol, I actually remember I came up with the idea of doing it myself on a rest day at the site on the point on Biggar Lake, 2/3 of the way into a 23 or 24 day trip with my father, out of books to read (in those days I could only bring as many books as I wanted to carry!) and generally a bit bored and thinking about random stuff.

I never actually wanted to do the books (or any other print maps for that matter) since I didn't want to deal with sales or that sort of thing. I just wanted to go camping and make maps for myself. I relented only because I got tired of people telling me that they couldn't use the map if they couldn't bring it with them (I say that in a good way - I wanted the map to be used of course!)

Geez, it's crazy how long it's been! I started making the map for myself August 2006, and then first put it online May 2008.

Thanks for your support though the years :D. May there be many more years, many more maps, and many more trips ahead of us :D

@tentsterforever - There will be inline enlargements where it's helpful (2x to 4x on the maps we've made so far) but no map books. You can see what I mean if you head over to Facebook.com/unlostify (no account necessary). Just scroll down to our Owl Vision post to see what I mean.

FYI, this is going to sound odd, but it won't be possible to properly print the new maps at home (or interact with them on a computer screen). It's not because we'll arbitrarily limit the maps that we put out online, but because... umm... well, if I explain that, it'll ruin the surprise. Safe to say, they aren't like anything you've ever seen before.

Sorry for being so cryptic! It's just that we've purposely been keeping the best stuff secret so we can deliver a really big surprise :D. Of course, I don't want to be the one to ruin it.

Only a few more days before we start sharing them though! (I'm super excited to see your guys' reactions)

Terrible news about 'Jeff's Map'.
The last I heard Eric admitted to running the company very poorly and made a post about how he was going to try and resolve any issues, if I remember correctly this was probably last spring or summer?

Yea, he deleted that when it was ~85 comments long, a majority of which weren't very favourable...

Thanks for all the kind words guys . We plan on blowing you away with awesomeness when the time comes :D:D

Umm.. don't hold me to this, but hopefully mid-summer? I had been hoping for early June, but I think that's out the window now.

Thanks! I'm super excited!

It's awesome to be working on an Algonquin map again! That's what got me started with the maps, and is my favourite place to go, bar none! :D

Sooner than later I'd expect that the company will lose it's ability to process credit cards. If I recall, you need to keep your chargebacks under 1%?

FYI, the company also gets dinged $20 or so for every chargeback (beyond the money that's taken and returned to you)

Eric just makes me shake my head....

Sigh......

Yea, I've gotten more emails than I can count from people in your shoes

They've ordered, haven't gotten what they ordered, have had no luck getting in touch with the company, and then have reached out to me in a last ditch effort to get alternative contact info for the company or that sort of thing.

Unfortunately my advice takes the form of 'contact your credit card company'. Tell them you didn't receive the products that you've ordered and that the company will not respond to your calls/emails. They should then do a chargeback which will reverse the charge, and the company will be penalized.

As you might imagine, it feels pretty disgusting having my name plastered all over the company when this is how people are being treated

From the material I've read which seems to be credible, neither CNR or the province claim they own the railbed, at least from the consideration of environmental cleanup.

That's what I'd always heard too. But a couple years ago I got a call from someone at CN in response to a note to that effect on the map.

They, in no uncertain terms, said that CN accepts ownership and responsibility for the rail bed and it's environmental problems (and then asked if I could remove the note that suggested otherwise from the map).

Thanks Tripper!

Not to hijack your thread, but just thought I'd mention if you (or anyone else reading) has any relevant/useful info for the new map I'd really appreciate it if you could send me a message/email :D

Yea, the shorted portage used to actually be the entire official trail. It was extended to it's present length in ~1996 (for, as you say, when water levels are lower)

The best way to use Google to search the old forum is like this:

site:http://www.network54.com/Forum/352882 "rock lake"

The "site:" part of the link means that you're ONLY searching the old forum (not all of the internet). The quotes around "rock lake" mean that you'll only find references to Rock Lake, not references to the word rock or references to lake individually (i.e. they allow you to search for a specific phrase)

While the park seems to give different answers at different times to different people (and hopefully you won't get in trouble for acting according to what park staff tell you), there are actually fixed dates that you can safely rely on. They're set out in Ontario Regulation 347/07 - https://www.ontario.ca/laws/regulation/070347

"Between December 1 and March 31, no person shall camp within 30 metres of the nearest portage or shoreline,

(a) in an area operated for interior camping in Algonquin Provincial Park"

@Bo - Not my friend Andrew. It's Eric. Just want to correct that since a few people here have met Andrew and it'd be unfair to associate him with it.

@Ash - Markus has them on his site.
