Hope you guys are right about the CCS pack. I've made the decision to start saving and replace the awful bag that I've got now.

I'm digging up an old thread, but I wanted to announce that a little over a year later I am now the proud owner of a CCS pack. My wife and in-laws got me a gift certificate to Canadian Outdoor Equipment and they were able to order in the bag for me. I went with a brown hybrid guide bag. Looks like awesome quality and I can't wait to take it for its first trip sometime this year!

As a Dad to be in April I have very much appreciated this thread. Any new words of wisdom two years after the original posting?

I don't currently have a hammock, but I'm hoping to change that next season. Being a bigger guy (6'4, 240lbs) I will be limited on what will work for me. Right now at the top of my list for future acquisition is the Warbonnet Blackbird XLC. (https://www.warbonnetoutdoors.com/product/blackbird-xlc/)

Day One
This past Thursday I set out with a friend for our third Algonquin canoe trip. For the past four summers we have made it an annual tradition to end the summer with a short weekend trip. We went to The Massasauga for our first trip in 2014, but since then we have been sticking with Algonquin. In 2015 we explored the park from the Kiosk access point, 2016 was Shall Lake, and this year we headed in from the Magnetewan.

Our plan for the first day was to travel from the access point to Shah Lake via Ralph Bice, Little Trout, Queer and the Tim River. We were on the water by 8:30AM and our trip had officially begun. The weather was beautiful and we were able to paddle through Ralph Bice with little to no wind (something which I hear is not always the case on that lake). The real fun began once we hit the portage from Queer Lake to Tim River. I’m shocked that portage does not have more of a reputation (or maybe I’m just oblivious) because it proved to be the most treacherous part of our trip. It felt like we were constantly going up and down hills, and to make matters worse everything was super muddy. My friend slipped and fell on his butt with the canoe above his head on three occasions before we arrived at the end.

Happy to have finally arrived on the Tim (a river I have been wanting to travel on for some time now) we set out on our way. Almost immediately after launching we heard lots of splashing and movement in the bushes. While we did not catch a glimpse of what was causing the racket I am 90% confident that it had to of been a moose. We carried on our way and enjoyed the many twists and turns that the river provided. This was a ton of fun for the first twenty minutes, but we soon found ourselves wishing the river was just a little straighter.

When we finally arrived at the portage into Shah we were quite excited to be coming to a close of the fir

It was announced a couple of days ago that Cooke Custom Sewing now has a Canadian retailer for their Tundra Tarps. At the end of the day you only save about $7 from ordering direct (I only checked this out on the 1.9oz 10X10), but I thought a few people here might still be interested to know that these are available locally.

I'm considering ordering the 10X10 and would love to hear anyone's feedback on these tarps.

If you want to relax things even a little more, one nice trip I've done is spend the first AND second nights on Misty, do the loop through Grassy Bay as a long but doable day trip without your gear on day 2 returning to your already set-up campsite...

The trip is booked! I took the above advice and decided on the following plan.

Day 1: Paddle to Shah
Day 2: Paddle to Misty (easy day!)
Day 3: Attempt the Grassy Bay loop, returning to our campsite on Misty
Day 4: Paddle to the access point and drive home

I'm pretty excited to explore a new section of the Park! August 24th can't come soon enough.

A friend of mine on Facebook shared the following article tonight.

I sure hope nothing happens with this and that the lake's location remains a secret.

This report covered my first ever visit to Algonquin Park. You're pictures are beautiful and bring back many good memories. I'm envious of your ability to solo trip with your dog. That's a dream for me one day. Now off to read the next couple days report! Thanks for sharing.

I wouldn't be too discouraged by the lack of comments. I always find the forum is relatively quiet on the weekends and doesn't pick up until everyone is back at work. I watched the video this morning and thoroughly enjoyed it. As I was driving home from the cottage last night I was telling my wife you had uploaded your next video and I was excited to get home to watch it.

In regards to constructive criticism, I would agree with your critique that this video may have been a little heavy on the travel montage. I also think shots with the natural sights and sounds of the park are great, but I wouldn't want you to cut out any of your talking times to make room for them.

My two main takeaways from this video is that I really want to paddle down the Tim, and that I am really not looking forward to the 935m portage into Misty next month (if that is the route I end up taking).

Edit: I also forgot to mention that everytime I watch your videos I feel a strong pull to check out kayak prices. I've never taken one into the backcountry but seeing you do it with ease always make it extremely tempting.

What pot does everyone use with this stove? (Thinking here specifically of pots that the Bushbuddy will comfortably sit inside). Does anyone have the TOAKS 1100ml they sell on the Bushbuddy site? (https://bushbuddystove.com/products/toaks-titanium-1100ml-pot)
