After growing impatient for Bob to upload the third video of his trip I decided to read the novel rather wait for the movie as you say. What a great trip report! Even though you truly get across how awful the portages were I still feel a small desire deep within to try out this route one day. Unfortunately I'm sure it won't hold nearly as many laughs as I had reading about your pain.

I particularly resonated with the following quote:

"It’s one of those trails that’s specifically designed to torture you by showing you the water on the other side way before you reach the put in. There are few things worse than walking along the bank of the lake you’re supposed to be paddling, knowing you’re not supposed to put in just yet, but not knowing why."

Thanks for that information Scouter. There was one campsite available for the weekend I had in mind so I went ahead and booked it. It might be on the small side so I could end up booking a couple of sites at Pog campground as well.

Can you comment at all on the things to do in that area? Do you know if there is an open area where a group could play frisbee? Can you get canoe rentals delivered to the campground?

I'll try and do a drive up in the near future to confirm that it will fit our needs, but would love to hear any additional information you might have. Thanks for the help!

What group camping options are there in Algonquin Park? I'm looking for drive in sites that can handle large groups. I am planning on taking a group of 20-30 secondary school students on a camping trip this August and want to fully explore my options. I spent last Monday trying to get a group site at Killbear and this morning at Grundy Lake, but the phone lines were bonkers. After redialing on two phones for several hours by the time I got through everything was booked full. This has left me considering Algonquin.

After a quick online search I've come across Whitefish Group Camping, and was wondering if anyone has any information on that place? Or are there other options?

**Edit: I realized I posted this in the wrong section. I am used to using this area for trip planning in general and didn't even think that it was only for backcountry trips. I would delete the post but I do not see the option. Sorry.

If we were smart this is where we would have stayed that evening, but it was our first trip into the park and we didn't know any better. We instead booked this site which most people recommend passing by.

Rattrap. I should have known looking at the hill down to the lake.

That's the one! You're up!

It's neither Daisy, nor Booth. It is, however, an island site.

Another view from the same spot:

Not a nice photo by any means, but can you identify the campsite?

What a great post! Thanks for sharing the history of your canoe. A great reminder of what makes both canoeing and Algonquin so special!

Sunday Lake would be great IF you land the island site. If not, or if there are others booked, then I wouldn't stay there. Camped the island site a few years back and it was really nice, Unfortunately another group took the site right across from it and we could hear everything they said.
I believe the 3rd site is pretty small.

I booked all three campsites on the lake today. We have seven people going so we can divide and conquer the lake.

Thanks for all the information everybody! It's been super helpful.

Another suggestion could be Sunday lake. Nice island site with good swimming . Short portage from Access point to the lake .
2 other sites but hell, book all 3 LOL! $12 per night is cheap to have the lake to yourselves.

This looks like it might be the winning ticket. Where does one park when camping here? Does this lake see much traffic of people passing through?

Also, we would need to rent 2 canoes. Which company is recommended for this area, and how would pick up and drop off work?

Thanks for all the suggestions! Once I've got a date finalized I will have to check through the availability of these sites and go from there!

I'm hoping to plan a two night bachelor party in Algonquin around the beginning of July. There will be about seven of us in attendance, and skill level will vary greatly. I'm looking for one or two portages at most, and they've got to be pretty easy. I'm not anticipating us being a loud group but we probably don't want to be in immediate proximity of another group. A site with swimming would be a welcome bonus.  So far I've been considering Crotch Lake or Booth.Any other suggestions? We'd be coming up from Orillia so we should be fine with any access point that is not on the eastern side of the park.
