on a winter camping trip in Feb 2020, a good friend had just got a pair of these Russian, Horsehair backed Taiga Skills and they were spectacular. i did some research and went to order them later on in March - only to be stopped by the economic sanctions because of the Ukraine war with Russia - you can't actually order these now from this guy because he is legitimate in Siberia, Russia.   Wondering if anyone here might have a lead on any builder in Canada or the US that makes something just like this? I'm really only interested in this kind of back country camping ski. i cannot upload the image for some reason, but you can check it out on his site tropa42.ru

Hi all, planning my first trip out of Shall for a Shirley Kitty, Booth lake weekend and was curious if anyone knows if there actually IS a site other than the Kitty Lake cabin on Kitty Lake? Jeff's map newest version shows the cabin and two campsites, but when i try to book online there is nothing listed there for Kitty Lake other than booking the cabin (which of course is already booked)

i can confirm all what you say! we left the morning of the 9th from Rock Lake campground. there was a mass power outage the day before and same day that stretched across most of the park and all thru Barry's Bay  - intermittent outages and one surge toasted their diesel pump which runs the main waters for the rock lake campground....so no flush toilets, no hot showers....first world problems. the lake was still a refreshing morning or evening "dip".

and yes a lot of multiple tent sites that whole week and park staff ignoring that there were, very often, well over 6 people per site. i will say however that everyone was quiet and it was a peaceful week. no party groups.

thanks all for the suggestions. and especially for the detailed option from you MooseWhizzerDave. i've sent them off to my daughter!. Sorry for delayed reply. just back tonight from a full week front country camping on Rock Lake with the trailer and my two youngest and their 2 best friends. saw moose, bear, beaver, fox, marten  and caught a crap ton of horrible rock bass, mini perch, undersized brook trout, undersized small mouth bass.......the lake trout and full size smallmouth bass were MIA this past week despite lots of efforts. i do love backcountry more, but i do enjoy this annual trailer camping week with the kids. it's amazing how algonquin is my and many others happy place.

Hi all, my daughter is working at Camp Huronda (summer camp for kids with Diabetes in Huntsville area this summer. after a few summers post Covid with no tripping they are back to planning trips for older kids and has asked me for suggestions of a 5 day trip for a group of 15-17 year old boys. preferences would be Tim or Mag access or anywhere along HWY 60 corridor - nothing too aggressive - typical day would be on the water by 10, arrive at camp around 3. bear in mind these are novice trippers. they'll have an experienced tripper and med staff with them. my immediate thought was the group of experts here for advice!  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This was an interesting post on Algonquin Park's Facebook page earlier this week....i had no idea!=0.9375rem=AZUNcI4pVaafq0qSCp5a9WqZqNWadaASFRPbB1vbEv1jggDKIGt51Ksuyfqw8fV2xdaPVqyL4JLWNaLVENRKOkN6lJmkLtbbtKVmCedZQsF4nj-KGxC6iQZM6sxWnlTfsKPs-Y0wdOWogkMoYv9Jbvg64Dxp7tIZYHLrs9CrODxfEN7beYMElbfwyAx41_eZhxocZRD9imX6YYOFIg6Rlhn_bAIW0SxDQf7X47NZ0qJnjg&__tn__=-UC%2CP-y-R]Algonquin Provincial Park=0.8125rem  · =0.9375remMaybe some of you have seen massive nests like the one pictured above. These nests are not made from a bird or a squirrel, but rather from Black Bears! Although our Black Bears are now hibernating for the winter, these structures are easy and interesting signs of bears. With the leaves gone, it is much easier to spot them and other animal-made structures in trees. Known as bear nests, these structures are made of clusters of broken branches while bears are up high in the canopy feeding on nuts such as beech or acorns. Despite the name “nest”, these are not structures where bears rest. When a bear sits in a tree's crotch to feed, they pull branches closer to them to eat buds, fruit, nuts, or leaves. When they break these branches, they place them in piles so that the food can be safely and comfortably consumed. If the nest you have found is in a Beech Tree, take a close look at the bark. Beech bark is incredibly soft, and claw marks can often be seen on their trunks from bears climbing up to have a snack of Beech nuts. These nuts are an especially important, nutrient-dense food source for Black Bears in the fall, as they have more protein and fat than acorns, preparing them for a long winter of no eating.  [img]https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0?ui=2&ik=d09e7d4cac&attid=0.1&permmsgid=msg-f:1785201211274712007&th=18c64f0b12a053c7&view=fimg&fur=ip&sz=s0-l75-ft&attbid=ANGjdJ88fiaSsZT2cGLqbibVNxdoUYqW9zbf519XlFE_ggJTFm7d-KH3Omt8y5wryV-Gcye9JND8ZuOxSCqBIIRKZCVrvAx-I_AlBi2SxuOSzoPPopjwM23Nz9bu

Hi all, looking to plan some new routes this winter that are NOT out of Mew Lake of Canoe Lake Access, or western uplands routes. Wondering if anyone knows if Pinetree Lake would be an accessible route or if the park has redefined what lots might be open this winter officially or unofficially for parking and access for other winter camping routes?

Did the whole Tim River - from access point #2 through to Shippagew June of 2021 - i'd mirror all of Peek's points. the low water hell is between Tim Lake through Rosebary and then beaver dam hell is on the Tim from the Longbow Lake dam through to the Little Trout Creek campsite, after that it's literally a few paddle overs....very light, very easy. both those campsites on the Tim are great. beautiful stretch of river. enjoy the trip. we went through top of Shippagew to Longer Lake and down BigTrout, beautiful trip. loved the route

Planning a solo route going into smoke lake and coming out at rock lake. Does anyone have suggestions on shuttle services?  Looking for someone that can pick me up at rock lake and drop me at smoke lake with my boat and gear at the beginning of the trip. Other than Algonquin outfitters. I tried them already….
