What lakes/rivers would you suggest staying on for timing? I like to cover a lot of ground, but at the same time don't like biting off more than I can chew. How many days to reach Whisky Jack for example?

I've looked at Cedar/Catfish/Nip in the past. Maybe this will be the year I do it!
Jdbonney - you'r first suggestion is a little close to what I did last year. Stayed a couple nights on Timberwolf and was in that area, so I'd like to try a different access point.

Open to portages, obviously in an ideal world they'd be short and there would be few of them, but I understand thats hard to avoid. In the past our longest has been 3000m and several 1500m which is totally doable.
We are coming from Toronto. Ideally entering anywhere on the west side of the park or off of 60 (Not crazy about entering off of 60 because of how busy it can be). Also I'd even be open to one of the northern access points. I have a place to stay in Muskoka to break up the drive in to two days if needed.

Hi Friends,
I've reached out for advice in the past and it's been a great help in planning our trips, so I'm back again! Recent past trips: Rock/Welcome/Louisa Loop and the Magnetewan/Ralph Bice/Misty/Timberwolf/Petewawa Loop. My girlfriend and I are looking at 5-7 days in a similar type trip, perhaps with 2 or 3 nights on the same site, preferably on a remote private lake. Ideally we would avoid large open lakes. As always, great fishing and the chance to see lots of wildlife is what we are after.
I look forward to hearing all of your suggestions. Thanks in advance to all the wonderful people on this forum!

Has anyone been in this area recently? I called the permit office and they haven't had any reports of low water on the Tim or elsewhere, anyone here been there recently? We leave for our trip Tuesday!

Great suggestions all round! That route Martin suggested looks like a great one, I've looked at doing that route in the past, I too enjoyed your trip report. However, I've decided on Magnetawan access. First night Little Trout, then Shah, Timberwolf for 2 nights, then Little Misty, Daisy and out. Giving ourselves tones of time to relax and enjoy the trip. Thanks for the input everyone! Let me know if you have any tips or stories about this specific route!

Thanks Eddy,
Mostly looking for route that mixes river and lakes nicely, similar overall distance to the welcome loop would be great. Anyone have any other ideas? Open to entering from any access point, might be nice to enter somewhere other than off the 60, but I'm open to anything!
Thanks

Hi everyone,
Looking to plan a 4-5 day trip for my girlfriend and I. Last year we did the Rock, Welcome, Lousia loop. Looking for a similar trip this year. Ideally we would like something without big open water to make the days a little easier (not that the Welcome loop was bad for that), somewhere remote, and a good site to spend a couple nights at this time. I had been looking at some Nippissing river / Tim Lake area. Anyone have some suggestions?

Fantastic!
As Peek said, thank you and AO for putting on this contest. Lots of fun and got me to finally write a trip log! Looking forward to reading through all the entries.
Thanks for the prize, it will be going towards a spring trip in a few months for sure!

My friend is one of the founders of this company. I've tested it out and absolutely love it. It opens and closes very easily and is very lightweight/compact for backcountry camping. I highly recommend it!

There were lots of great pictures this year for sure. I don't envy the task of judging them, great job! Happy Holidays everyone!

Thought I would share that Algonquin Outfitters has posted the winners of the 2015 Photo Contest here. Are any of the winners members of the AA community? This makes me excited for the Trip log contest results, any updates there Barry?

Absolutely, couldn't agree more. Just wanted to clarify my intentions. All great advice all round.
Now I just have 5ish months to flip flop between trip ideas! Frankly I haven't done much river tripping and have never spent a night on a river. I'd like to give it a try for at least a night. I hate that my trips are generally restricted to 3 nights! Maybe I'll try to get a 4 or 5 night trip in this spring.

Thanks for the tips everyone, lots of great advice.
Just in response to MartinG - Of course I don't expect anyone to give way their favourite fishing spots, and to be honest, fishing is a secondary aspect of a trip for me. Mostly what I was looking for was advice on sites, routes and portages and to see if anyone had some favorite spring routes. Just to reiterate, I'm not planning on over fishing or stealing anyone's favourtie spot! Sorry if the topic of the post was misleading.

Couldn't agree more. I only keep a couple max during each trip. Just enough to add a complement a meal if I'm lucky. Thanks for sharing the video and the details of the trip!

I'm thinking of doing a loop this spring. Enter at Tim, go to big bob, take the Nip to loontail, then down to Rosebary then back to Tim and out. I'm thinking of spending a couple nights at the site at Nip/loontail/hiah lake. Anyone have any thoughts on this site or route? I'd really like to be able to spend multiple nights in one place, usually I move camp every night and that can get a little tiring.

Checked out your channel and found this video I assume this is the one? Looks like a great trip! Lots of fish! Thanks for making that. What was your trip exactly? I'm curious where that first nights campsite was.
