Just returned from a trip in North-ish Algonquin. Flies hatched may 10-11 and have been growing in numbers but not biting. Mainly swarming during the day and at dusk. Mosquitos are very minimal-  but i suspect that is due to the incredibly dry conditions. My prediction is for them to take off as well with the rain forecasted. Plan accordingly…

Cheers

Headed there within the next couple weeks!

Sounds great, I hope you have a nice trip. Are you staying at the cabin? Also, I’d be interested to know the current state of the creek upon your return if you wouldn’t mind sharing.

Great information posted above. With the rapid warming expected in the near forecast, my guess would be to expect the first wave of flies starting end of next week.

You got it, swede. It is birchcliffe during eary spring.. quite the slog but well worth the reward, in my opinion!

You’re up!

Yo that's my girl, Nadine.

That was quick! It is in fact Nadine. Taken from the furthest campsite from the nip portage. A bit of a story- a few members of our group were feeling a bit overheated after portaging up from the nip.. so we paddled their canoe and they swam across the lake to the campsite!

I guess you’re up, Peek!

I'm sure I'm not the only one regularly checking the lake of two rivers image, but I must say things look promising to me, lots of melting/deterioration of ice quality this week.

I'm hoping for first backcountry trip in to Algonquin for Apr 25. Hoping that backcountry camping will open up by then, if not I'll setup base with car camping & do day trip fishing.

Looking forward to spring fishing this year, can't lock us down for a 3rd year! No way I'm staying home this spring.

My understanding is that trout opener in Algonquin is the last saturday in April, which would be April 30th this year. Am I missing something?
