There are (or at least used to be) some of those insulators where the old ranger phone line ran along the Nipissing, but there are certainly others here and there in the Park. Hard to pick a specific location.

Not Booth, Kitty or the Nipissing.
This is an insulator from one of the old phone lines that connected the ranger cabins. From Audrey Sanders "Algonquin Story". These park telephone system first went up in 1911. The first phone lines were strung using the telegraph poles along the railways. This particular insulator is not along side any railway line. But it is part of a phone line shown on the 1947 Algonquin Sheet.

This is not on a lake. It is on a former road.

Good guess JC but no. Further south and further east.
The road (or portions of it) is now a portage.

Nope! What road is your truck on?

I would have guessed it was Red Pine. Unfortunately, I dont have any other pics showing the tree. Maybe it is a Hemlock. This insulator and a couple of others can be found on the long port between Shrew and McKaskill. You're up JC!

Agree with John, it looks like a hemlock - irregular, feathery-looking branches and rough, lumpy bark. Fine trees, and all too rare outside the Park.

I also think it's a hemlock but that might be a pine behind it to the left, so you're seeing both types of needles... no idea about the location though.
