Quick Two Nighter To Bonnecherre

Originally set for 3 nights it quickly changed to 2 thanks to a police escorted wide load on highway 400 from Barrie to Coffee Time . This put us behind by 2 hours leaving us in the rain watching the daylight hours tick away from Cache lake access point with a decision to make.We chose to err on the side of caution and not make the trek from Cache to Bonnecherre until the next day figuring it would leave travelling in the rain and dark. Having already picked up the permit we weren't hindered by having to wait for the permit office to open and were eager to make an early start. We sought refuge  at a friend's nearby cottage for the night and headed in Friday morning. Day One. Cache to Bonnecherre via Hilliard, South Canisbay, Kingfisher, Mohawk, Little Mohawk and Cradle. 9 Portages and 4.5 hours later we were to our site on Bonnecherre hindered slightly by low water levels making take outs and put in somewhat challenging. The weather was fantasitic with a  mild dry day and cool crisp night. Was a long day with 3 relative newbies but they soldiered on . We didn't see a soul on route. Didn't surprise me as I don't see this as a popular route to Bonnecherre. The portages were in great shape. Day two was Bonnecherre to Head via Phipps , Kirkwood, Pardee and Harness. All the sites on these lake seemed to be pretty decent as we passed by. We stopped for lunch on the 715 at the south end of Pardee where we ran in to a party of two out for a day trip of our same loop only in reverse. Two guys that worked at Bartlet Lodge on Cache that gave us a heads up about low water being an issue in the creek leading to head lake after the 1035 m. We had only seen one other group this day heading to Louisa. Head lake was busy as anticipated but we were able to settle on the second site east of the 1640 back to cache. Not a bad site at all. Another beautiful day and cool night. Sunday morning was cool and foggy but was an incredible paddle to the 1640 and back to cache lake access point. I love paddling in early morning mist before the sun burns it off. Cache lake was a welcome sight and a short paddle on glassy water had us back to the access point by 10 am. Showers and lunch were in order at Canoe Lake soon after. As most trips this one was over far too soon and way too long until the next one. Have already pulled out he maps... Will post some pictures hopefully soon. Enjoy the rest of your tripping season.
