Gordon Lightfoot and his Canary Yellow Canoe

RIP Gordon , your songs will live on forever !

Gordon Lightfoot's Canary Yellow Canoe | The Stories They Hold

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZ-5brdqGrs

Definitely a plus for using a ABS canoe in Whitewater 🤔
Still can not find his song “ CanaryYellow canoe “ but
I’ll keep searching 🙂
But
The lyrics could easily be
modified to be Algonquin related
and then hopefully heard often on the portages 😁
or
the original lyrics sung would be fine as well 🙄

Lyrics
In my canary yellow canoe - my yellow canoe
I want to go tripping in my canary yellow canoe
The Eastmain, Coppermine, Back River too
In my canary yellow canoe
In my canary yellow canoe - yellow canoe
I want to run rivers in my canary yellow canoe
The Desmoines River, Rupert River, George River too
In my canary yellow canoe
In my canary yellow canoe - mellow yellow canoe
I want to go tripping in my canary yellow canoe
Chebugema, Peace River, Resolute too
In my canary yellow canoe
In my canary yellow canoe - my elephant too
I want to go tripping in my canary yellow canoe
Churchill, Yellowknife, Ross River too
In my canary yellow canoe

Re: Gordon Lightfoot and his Canary Yellow Canoe

Thanks for posting this. I wasn't even aware of the song and the story behind it.

As a huge Lightfoot fan, I was definitely saddened by yesterday's news and made sure to play a couple of his LP's in his honour (yes, vinyl lives here...). His ability to evoke so much feeling into a song's lyrics and in its delivery is unparalleled. I think Bob Dylan summed it beautifully when he said that every time he listened to one of his songs, he wished it would last forever.

RIP Gordon!
