Re: What bird in Algonquin makes this sound?????

Well done Swede.....YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY WRONG!!!!  A bull frog is not a bird.

Re: What bird in Algonquin makes this sound?????

I know EXACTLY what you are talking about!
When we were on North River Lake we heard it steady in the evenings coming from the marsh where the river comes into the lake. We went and explored and we seen the bird, it was about 1.5ft tall and has a long kneck.  I tried to figure out what it was when I got home but couldn't find it!!!

Re: What bird in Algonquin makes this sound?????

American Bittern... first time I heard it, I thought I was about to be ambushed by some unknown predator. Freaky at night when you don't know what it is.

Diana helped me identify this bird a few years back..

fast forward to 0:40 and there's your answer. I once described this call as 'repeatedly dunking an empty cup, upside down into the lake.'
