Happy April everyone,

I didn't see an ice-out thread, so decided to start one.

I am at Barry's Bay these days, Kamaniskeg Lake has about 20" of solid ice on it as of yesterday.

My guess for ice-out is May 1, but wouldn't be surprised if it was the following week.

I like April 25. I’ll predict a warm and rainy month.

Double digits and rain Mon-Wed then 20 deg highs and sun Thurs/Fri, feeling confident for May 2, starting to get excited. The temps look pretty good for the entire 2 wk long range assuming it holds.

The ice didnt break up with this weekend's wind and rain, and lows in -5 to -8 over the nexr 3 days. Then ... meh.. temps.

Front country opening was supposed to be May 1, they just postponed til May 8. Pretty sure that's gonna be the backcountry date as well.

I'm still hopefull for May 2, HIghs around 15 Wed-Sat next week with no overnight freezing temps then double digits the following week again no overnight lows below zero. Keeping my fingers crossed. I saw a guy walking his dog on Nipissing last weekend and this weekend there's open water on the shoreline and the lake ice is all black and rotten. A lot can change in a week of warm weather but you may be right. We should have a good idea by next weekend.

I'm just praying to the canoe gods that the weather works at this point and my May 2nd trip doesn't get canceled as its my sole multi day trip this year

I imagine they will hold off until next Sunday to make a call, if they feel like Opeongo will be ice free by Wed-Thurs I can see them opening for Saturday the 2nd, they'll have a pretty good idea by then. They won't wan't to cancell hundreds of permits if they don't have to. I could be wrong.

Crossing my fingers for May 2nd as well....just made a reservation.  I always seem to be facing narrow windows of opportunity for ice out trips, when it is 10% hoping, 10% guessing, 10% predicting, and 70% trying to wedge a trip within my family's schedule between ice-out and bug-in.

Checked their website and Algonquin Outfitters is opening all of their stores on the 25th, feeling pretty good about things. Late April always kind of suprises to the upside or downside, forcast later this week is for 15 but I wouldn't be suprised if it hit 20+, then again it could go the other way.

If you look at the current webcam photos from today on the website vs the same date on the time lapse there is much more open water already this year compared to last year.
