Just a heads up that the cabin refresh was completed end of July.
New screens, windows doors, full rechinking etc.

The Rangers did a great job overall. One thing to note however is the screen on the door already was compromised at some of the edges when we arrived.

I don’t think it was a case of rough or careless handling.
The new spring to close the door works great but the opening covered by the screen extends quite low and there is no horizontal wood brace to protect it.

To keep the door from slamming closed, you naturally would extend your hand or butt however with no wooden cross piece someone would end up pressing directly on the screen.

My guess is it will be flapping in the wind within a few visits.

All to say if you are heading in to the cabin carry some duct tape and/or light screening material for patching (goes for any cabin visit I guess).

Further to a post in another thread, no mice during our stay. Judging by the vole-sized bulge halfway through one of their gullets, the family of snakes living under the cabin seem to be doing yeomen’s service in keeping the population in check.

Lenny, we were in there right before you... funny actually getting to read my daughters note she left in the log book.. i was busy packing and cleaning up when she wrote it haha. the cabin is in fantastic condition... what an improvement!

Those are awesome notes. Evan, you took your daughter from Tattlee to Dickson? That's is hardcore!

several weeks ago big crow cabin was not on the reservation list ,, i wonder if that cabin was repaired as well?

We were there last weekend and it looked like it had some work done recently. Also saw a float plane come in Friday around noon so presumably picking up or dropping off staff; the site we stayed on had newly made benches so Big Crow was definitely on the park’s maintenance list this summer.

the spring needed to be cleaned out the last time i was at the cabin , lots of cement blocks laying around.
many years ago the spring had a box cover and a lid on top,, that is long long,
i hope the floor was fixed , many pieces of fire wood have been chopped on the floor over the years , very hard on the wooden flooring ,

Oh it was quite the trip... but she handled it like a champ. Not sure how many more summers she will want to hang out with Dad, so we packed in a ton of my favourite lakes and a few cabins to make one epic week in the park!
Paid for it though, the blisters on my feet are ALMOST healed now too!

Thats awesome Evan! You guys left the site and cabin spotless. What a nice note she wrote! We had a great trip, only a few drops of rain on a 5 night trip was awesome.

It was an eerie week in a way. With the wildfire smoke the sun and moon were just big orange balls in the sky. Very little wind for most of our trip, and we did not see a soul from noon on day 2 until we reached Animoosh. The nights were warm, weirdly silent, and very buggy most of the trip.

No waves, few birds... just the drone of mosquitos in the evening. We sat on a rock on Lavieille watching the sun go down, and we were scared to return to our hammocks due to the insect hum from the woods. Never seen it like this in August before.

Agreed! Bugs were the worst I've ever seen in August which is odd considering how dry it's been.
