Algonquin Adventures / Upstream on the Petawawa

Trying to find the optimal route to get to Long Rapids on the Crow - considering accessing via A52 (on the old Jeffs Map). Wondering if anyone has any insight on how manageable it would be to travel upstream on the Petawawa from Devil's Cellar Raps to the Crow (Blueberry Falls) in mid May.

The reason I removed that one from the newest edition of my map is because CN reached out. They wanted me to make it clear that they still own the railway right-of-way and the public is not permitted to use it. I've never heard of this being enforced, but I just thought I should mention that.

Hopefully someone else can answer your actual question. I've never paddled that in the spring and I don't want to speculate. Sounds like a fun trip though!

Interesting - thanks for the heads up, Jeff. For CN's sake, my route will begin from Lake Travers
On a previous trip (travelling in a different direction from a not-to-be named access point), I took a short detour to check out Devil's Cellar Raps and the flow was gnarly to say the least. That said, I came across another post about travelling down the Pet (generally, so not specific to the stretch I am interested in) that suggested it is more like lake travel in between the rapids/portages....but hoping for some more insight before committing!

It is pool and drop rapids above Rocky Chute. Unless water is very high you should be fine. Depending on how I'm feeling I might be compelled to just... walk the rail line past Bypass Falls. Maybe even past Macdonald Rapids. As Jeff says it's not a public right of way. CN owns the rail line not Ontario Parks. If CN were to enforce not travelling on the rail line one would assume the enforcement officers would be driving it, in a truck...
