Algonquin Adventures / changing henessy hammock suspension lines ??

has anyone changed the suspension lines for a henessy hammock??
any tips or tricks ? i would like to scale down the rope size/diameter as well.

Years ago, I switched mine out for straps attached to a continuous loop and Dutchwear Buckles. There are videos on Youtube with instructions. It is very easy. Basically just a girth hitch. I added some extra wraps to mine. Less bulky and easier to adjust than the stock Hennessy suspension. I can't say how much I like it as I pretty much stopped using a hammock shortly after making the switch.

I'm still plugging away with original set up. There are tons of videos of people converting them online. Martin. I'm curious what made you decide to stop using a hammock?. I don't use it in Winter but never without it in spring, summer and fall.

To each their own. There is no 'right' answer. But, for me I was not more comfortable in a hammock than I was on the ground. I also use a tent that is lighter, less bulky and less fiddly than my hammock system. So, I just sort of drifted away from hammocks. I might give it another go this year.

Ahh. They can be fiddly for sure. Every set up is a new adventure. I'm definitely more comfy hanging. I don't mind being on the ground. It's the getting up and off the ground in the morning I don't enjoy so much anymore. Cheers!

i just thought i would dust off my hammock and give it a try,, sometimes i find that my ankle gets angled off too much from the hammock,,

Swede. I've slept both straight and on the diagonal in mine. I do find that if I put something under my knees to sleep my legs and feet are fine in the morning. I have experienced some joint pain and stiffness after a night . I attribute it to hyperextension of my knees when sleeping in the hammock and rolling up some clothes or a blanket and tucking it in there seems to help. Might be worth a shot.

Sweede I know this does not really apply to your question .
It might be where I am choosing to camp but there is not a lot of level spots around here to set up a tent so the last couple of years I have been using my Hennessy. The more you use it, the easier it is to figure out the hang.
Last year I picked up Bev an Amok hammock and have used it a couple of times. Once you figure out how to get into the thing the sleep is night and day, just easier to hang and no problems with over extended joints. For fun I tried my thermarest pro sleeping pad and ya, it was as bad of an idea as I thought it would be but I justified the cost by getting the winter pad they offer and use it in the ice hut in the winter.
The entry cost is a little high but if you are looking to get off the ground it might be an option.

hey rob thanks for jumping in ,, looks like a very comfy sling ,
i am looking at setting my hammock up inside the no fly zone tarp screen cube,, i will not need a tarp, sleep mat, tent and poles , will shave some weight off,,
looking for lakers on monday?

Hope this isn't going too off topic on suspension lines but relative to Hammocks, I was wondering if anyone had any feedback on the "Haventents" https://haventents.com/? I'm close to switching off of the ground but still struggling if it's worth the investment.

Hi Andy -
I don't have any direct experience going off the ground other than testing out my son's Hennessy many years ago, but I do look at getting off-ground from time to time. The haventents look like a pretty good option, although they seem a bit heavy to me. I keep getting intrigued by the Opeongo A-1. That is still a little heavier than my solo tent, but not by too much if memory serves. It is a bit pricier, however. Maybe discussion regarding off-ground tents would be a good thread to start, there have been some new entries since the last time this was a discussion point on the forum.
