The portage to this put-in comes off the hydro line corridor.

Looks like the portage put in for the wetland area one has to cross to get to the 270m portage onto Carcajou Lake.  (The end of the 1110m + 530m portage from Greenleaf)

You are correct. I see on Jeff's map that this meadow, being "an almost pure sedge meadow... is a rarity in Algonquin."

The last time I was at this put in we spooked a mama bear and 2 cubs at that opening in the pines across the meadow. The mama went back 40 or so yards from shore and huffed and puffed. The 2 cubs climbed up the pines right in that opening. Just starred at us for a while before slowly shimmying back down the trunk and running off after mom. It was pretty cool. We also saw a bear on the hydro line while portaging to Greenleaf. Wasn't as cool with that. But it ran off too.

Very cool!  I've never had much luck in the wildlife spotting department...
