Wow you beat me to the ides of March! Crazy how this winter has been cancelled, I kept thinking I should go out paddling. Finally went out today Feb 2, Lake Ontario. Great to be out in the middle of "winter"!

For sure this year will be record early ice out date. I was thinking two weeks earlier than record, so I'll now have to go with March 14

We were at our cabin in the NW corner of Aylen Lake on the weekend.   The ice about 100' out from shore was only 7" thick!  There wasn't much snow on the lake and we are supposed to start getting colder weather towards the end of next week so it is possible the ice will get thicker before we get into March.

According to the Park’s ice out history page the earliest recorded ice out was March 29, 2012. Are we going to set a new record this year? Yes or no (I’m saying no, but I could be convinced either way).

It’s been 16-17 degrees here in SW Ontario the last two days.  I imagine it’s possible, but I still think we will be 3rd week of April.

i was talking to my friend that has a place near maynooth,, he told me that there was 15 inches of ice on his lake,
it will be a while yet ,, rain and high winds really help the melt,, and monsoon rains for sat , if the egg heads get the forcast right

Isn't there a camera setup off Hwy 60 or somewhere like that?  Is it LOTR tat has a cam to check out the lake ice melt? Speaking of which, it sure looks like there's open water around that area according o the EOSDIS website.

Btw, do we have a political forum?  I have an itch to scratch and a bone to pick.

We're a tad NE of Orillia, and I have to keep reminding myself that it is MARCH, not May!  Lakes Simcoe and Couchiching are opening up, what ice is left is looking pretty ratty.

Being an optimist, I'll say ice-out in Algonquin will be April 20th.

If I'm going to guess, I'm going to guess something noteworthy. It will be a new record - March 27th. But I have been known to be a monkey's uncle.
