this portage also stinks... have only done it heading from Red Rock, but in the heat of the summer it is a long one!
The relief this little bend in the river gave me when I first saw it... forever engrained in my memory!

I've only done it once, in the same direction as you, and I definitely remember how it felt much, MUCH longer than the distance on the sign. I also recall seeing what looked like a river on my left about 9/10th of the way through it and wondering - 'Why am I still walking?' A few minutes later I was relieved to be at the landing.

This photo is from Sept 2012. Hard to believe nearly 10 years has gone by since I snapped the shutter on this one.
