Not Carl Wilson to Ironwood.

This portage must have been traversed for the claims of the video to be true.

The song was actually written by an Aussie with Australian towns a few years before Hank Snow hit the charts with it.  Never knew the history of that one...but always loved Johnny Cash's version!

... is not a place to live in. The rents are high, the food is bad, the dust is disgusting and the morals are deplorable. Go North, young man, go North and grow up with the country.

Not Potter.  Go north young man, go north.

We all know that Peek has been everywhere.  But we can be especially sure that Peek has been across this portage and onto the pictured lake because ... ruins!

edit: oops. I misspelled Peek.

Not Aura Lee to Laurel but we're closing in on it.  Not north enough.

Not sure what I can add to move this along.
There are only a small number of lakes (and thus associated portages) that are more northerly than Aura Lee.
Of those, I can think of two lakes -- although there may be more -- that host ruins.
Of those two, one is more beginner friendly than the other.

I am getting desperate to come up with clues other than just giving the answer; how about this (it's carefully worded):

"Unless there are ruins on Big Bissett Lake of which I am unaware, the ruins on the pictured lake are the most northerly ruins within Algonquin Park on any formally recognized canoe route."

note that "formally recognized" does not include Jeffrey's unofficial routes.  Also on many maps of Algonquin Park, the top is not exactly north.

Checked in too late... Geez, I don't know how I missed that - we were there in September 2020 and even retraced Peek's steps to discover the ruins. A truly beautiful lake!
