I just picked up an OR Seattle Sombrero on a Massdrop. They seam to get very good reviews. Fully waterproof, adjustable and good quality.

Hoping it will become my new favourite tripping hat.

Don’t think I have ever seen this question posed anywhere though.

Do you have a favourite? If so what is it and why?

My Tilley T3 in "nylantium"! had it about 20-25 years now. It fits well, has a stash pocket in the top big enough to hold some matches, cord, foil, and a soup packet. it's waterproof, and their strap system is bombproof! But, best of all is the warranty, lifetime for wear and tear, and 1/2 price to replace it if it's stolen!

Like the look of that Tilley. Noticed that most Tilleys say water resistant not waterproof. Your version is proof?

I see that people treat them with Greenland wax too. Which I do for my Fjällräven gear and it works well.

I suppose it's not "waterproof" per se, but I've never had it leak, even in heavy downpours or even all day rains. It could simply be that claiming it's waterproof could lead to complaints if it did ever leak

My favourite is still a ball cap that nicely holds the rim of my hood up when wearing my rain coat.

LOL @ John. Too funny. Question for you though: I never seem to catch any flies this way - they just keep buzzing around me (though I've been putting the tape on the top of my hat, not the side - maybe that's it?). Are you using regular duct tape or some other super-sticky tape? Is there some hidden knack to this that I'm not getting? Thanks!

careful with that stuff, John. On some portages  there are enough of them that your hat may just fly away
