Ice out, April 14. Wishing I'd brought warmer clothes while waiting out a freak snow storm on Big Trout, April 20.

He was predicting the future, not lamenting the past ;)

Now that we're past my sarcastic Feb. 28th date with the lakes still well frozen, do I get to make a more serious guess?

Uppa's got it, although if I've had that experience already on McKaskill and once was enough.

Nice loophole! I'm defining my earlier guess as 'sarcastic', effective the day after. Unless I guessed right, in which case I was totally serious.

That's why I'm asking before making a 'new' guess! :-)

Now, if I was allowed another guess then it would be ...

With the power vested in me, I declare your February date an obvious joke. Guess again!

Here are the dates I see picked so far:

April 6       Clipper Paddler
April 12     ATVenture
April 14     Algonquin Lakes
April 17     Peek
April 18     ShawnD
April 23     Uppa
Too disappointed in the mild winter to pick a date           DW

I assume we're using the Opeongo Algonquin Outfitters standard, correct?

I'm going to go with April 25th based on a serious scientific evaluation of the Weather Network 14 day forecast, respect for serious picks already made, hard earned experience that if the ice ain't out by then I can give up on permits being issued for opening weekend, and a gut feel that we're in for a more normal end to winter and early spring after a bizarrely warm end to February and start of March.

Oh, and by that point I'll have no justification for picking another date. ;-)

Posting to nobody in particular. In 2016 the ice was completely off Simcoe on March 30th.

Ice out for Opeongo was May 1st 2016 IIRC.

April 13 is the day, it's a Friday, and everybody knows Friday the thirteenth is always lucky!

Rob you missed my post of April 16, its a bit early in reality but I'll stick with it for fun....but honestly, maybe not May 18th but betting permits are delayed beyond reasonable ice out 'safety'

Moonman.
