My buddy and I are talking ourselves into a day trip loop up to Wilkins Lake this weekend. It only works if we can start from 18a though. Anyone have any intel on how that road is late season? Particularly now that there’s some snow on the ground. We’d like to do it but don’t want to do anything stupid and end up stuck up there.

Believe a member mentioned owning a cottage near the 18A access point, but unfortunately can’t find the post. Will you be parking a second vehicle at 18B and doing a shuttle?
Without snow the road is in good shape to 18B up until the last kilometer which i've driven many times in a small compact car. The park had a 4 wheel drive warning for most of this past season even though IMHO the road to Cedar Lake is rougher. Sorry, not sure what condition the road is like for the last kilometer off of North Aylen Lake road (N Road on google maps) to 18A or when these roads are snow covered.

I have a cousin with cottage on Aylen Lake . The road was fine this summer to 18A and 18B by Subaru. With snow this could have changed. I'll see what I can find out.

AlgonquinLakes, I am curious if you made it?
My wife and I have been doing a post Remembrance Day trip for close to 15 years now. For the first time, we were denied a paddling permit because of early ice. They closed back country paddling permits Nov. 12. They said that ice came much earlier this year. ...which seemed to be an accurate observation as many of the big lakes had a little more ice coverage than in years past.

Sadly, no. Weather reports kept getting worse so we bailed.

...yeah, I wasn't to disappointed our trip was cancelled as I sat one the couch Saturday night having a beer and watching a movie, while it poured freezing rain outside.
