Billy and Oram Lake's

I'm trying to decide which lake would be best for a short one night trip, to try to get someone into back country camping. I've found very little about Oram but it intrigues me as it looks like it would be rather quiet on a weekend. Billy Lake on the other hand i'm not so sure about because of just how easy it is to access i would be worried it might be loud or have garbage on the campsites. I would appreciate anyone's thoughts or first hand experience with this.

Re: Billy and Oram Lake's

I can’t comment on Billy but I found Oram fairly underwhelming. The portage isn’t terrible but the power lines take away its ambience. If you take the second site (furthest) you don’t see the power lines and the swim-ability is on point.

Re: Billy and Oram Lake's

Was hoping to see moose, but had no luck, while staying on the Oram Lake campsite that Shanny mentioned. You get a good view of boggy and swampy areas from that campsite. Not a fan of the hydro line that Shanny mentioned. Found that the last stretch of water on Crotch to the portage to Oram was very strange as the water seemed very silty and bottomless at the time.

If biting insects are bad personally would stay on Billy and hope for wind.

If the winds are predicted to be strong or cold would stay on Oram. Paddling Oram should be easier than Billy during high winds.

Shoulder seasons you may have either of these lake all to yourself so it would be quite. During peak season, on a weekend, I'd stay on Oram which allows 2 reservations/campsites over Billy Lakes 5 reservations hoping for more peace and quite.
