Best route into Sunbeam from Canoe Lake

Which route would be fastest/easiest in mid-September? Thank you for any information.

Re: Best route into Sunbeam from Canoe Lake

Looks like I have narrowed it down to two options:

Route 1: via Teepee/Littledoe/Bluejay/Vanishing Pond
- 17.58 km (incl. 0.73 km of portaging)
- Potential difficulty with low water levels that time of year

Route 2: via Tom Thomson/Bartlett/Willow
- 18.21 km (incl. 1.89 km of portaging)

I'm assuming route 2 is the safer option to avoid the low water level issues between Bluejay and Vanishing Pond - but open to any suggestions or feedback. Thanks.

Re: Best route into Sunbeam from Canoe Lake

Your route 2 estimate of 1.89km portgaging is probably correct - I went from White Trout to Tom Thompson last September and Kooy Pond was just stinking black muck. I poled part, then wised up and portaged the rest. Other than a short little climb out of Kooy Pond I don't recall anything difficult about the portages. Haven't done your route 1 so I'll let others comment on it.

I've done your route 1 in mid-July.  I'd believe the low water warning for a September trip.
