October Overnight with Kids

On October 02 a buddy and I are hoping to take our kids into Algonquin for an easy one night trip. One of the boys is six years old, and the other is two years old. We're looking to avoid portaging.

I am currently planning for Crotch Lake because it's familiar and I know there are a few beach sites, but I'd love to hear what other lakes you would recommend. Biggest priorities would be a shallow water entrance, and a site with room to explore.

Not sure how far you want to go but Grand lake has a really nice site that checks the roominess and beach boxes - #11 in the PCI.  It can get crowded there in the summer but you might have to yourself in Oct.  Or if you'd consider one pretty easy portage, Pen becomes a good option.  Likely lots of others but those come to mind right away.
