Mccraney portage

I’m wondering if it is possible to canoe further into the bay where the mccraney portage starts from rain lake and access the trail further down? We will be leaving in 3 days so a bit short notice.
Thanks

Re: Mccraney portage

I don't think so. When I walked the Western Uplands Trail I didn't notice an underpass for canoes. You would have to portage over the trail and then paddle down the bay to find a decent landing before bushwhacking up to meet the portage. Probably not worth the effort.

Re: Mccraney portage

Solos is right on the money.  The old rail bed cuts that bay off, and it's mostly bog and tree stumps beyond Rain Lake.  The McCraney portage along the cart path is one of my favorites.  Flat, open, well-maintained, and easy as heck.  I would put it at one of the easiest portages per meter in the park.
