I found a ground nest of yellow jackets the hard way today while cutting the lawn (I'm not allergic, but it hurt like H and still does) - reminded me of a few Algonquin instances, but also reminded me to check and make sure that I have Benadryl (pill and cream) in the canoeing first aid kit. It is one of those things that is easy to overlook but is a key item to have on hand, just thought it was worth mentioning.
Good point. I usually carry Claritine. Benadryl causes sedation and drowsiness and therefore is not an ideal antihistamine for adults. Though I don't see myself falling asleep in a canoe (I wish I could!), there are alternatives with less sedative effects.
