Firewood sold by park and no splitting stump

Why is the firewood you have to buy from the Algonquin campgrounds always damp? And why don't the campsites have a stump for splitting wood on? Splitting wood on the soft uneven ground is a pain.

Simple reason; the firewood is provided by the Ministry of government services under contract by the lowest bidder, so you get green, unseasoned crap, and there are no stumps because they just get cut up and burned by other campers

Answer #1:  Rain (and possibly not fully seasoned wood) but tarps or structures to cover wood and keep it dry cost money.  So the real answer is money.

Answer #2:  Fire.  Stumps for splitting wood would eventually be burned by some non-caring or neophyte camper.

That's what I figured. Most of my camping experience is at DEC campgrounds in New York state and, believe it or not, they actually seem to know what they're doing down here.
