Now up front I have to admit I've never been along the canoe route that runs from Smoke Lake to Park Lake. However, I'm processing some PCI submissions and one of them's for a campsite on "Snow Lake", which is on that canoe route.
Snow Lake is actually outside of the park. Its "one" campsite appeared on official Canoe Route Maps back in the '90's and even had the Zone Number 154 assigned to it. However, subsequently its "availability" was removed from the reservation system. It's of interest to me that another campsite on this canoe route, located on Bluebell Lake (with the Zone Number 152) has been "closed".
Does anyone have knowledge of or experience with this canoe route? Has anyone heard anything about its viability into the future? Any whisperings about it being closed down? Given that there's only one official campsite remaining on it within the park, it certainly doesn't appear to be getting much support from the park. Any insights?
Here's what the 1995 Canoe Route Map showed. Note that back then there was no campsite on either Hilly or Bluebell Lake ...
The current official Canoe Route Map only shows the one park campsite on Hilly Lake ...
The online reservation saystem map only shows that same campsite being available and a closed campsite on Bluebell Lake ...
And then, Jeff's Map shows the canoe route having "out-of-park" campsites on Victory Lake (1) and Snow Lake (2) ...
It sure would be interesting to get more "on-the-ground" details and some "overview" understanding of this canoe route's prospects into the future!

I'll volunteer. It was on my short list for last weekend, but I went elsewhere and I'm still curious. I may try it on a long weekend in the spring. Didn't the PCI submitter have more route info?

I haven't inquired of the submitter yet. I just got intrigued by the map discrepancies over the years and shot-up the posting. After posting, I phoned Jeffrey (Jeff's Maps) and it turns out he recently did that very trip with his Dad. So there may be some photos coming from him!

Looking forward to seeing more. Part of the reason I didn't go was the presence of access roads from the south and whether or not that contributed to abuse/degradation of the area.

The PCI submitter I referred to in my original post has posted on another thread regarding the Snow Lake campsite. It's by "Tentsterforever" over on where she say ...
"..... Me and my friend stayed at Wolfs Den for a couple of nights (just outside west gates) and day tripped into Park lake and Snow lake, with easy access from hw 60. A flat 120m portage from highway parking (turn around for snowplows) into Park lake. About a good hours paddle to Snow lake, where theres supposed to be 2 sites, but the site on the point (Jeffs map) was not found. The second site is further along the way then indicated. Small site, room for 2 smalerl tents, lots of firewood, dead pines behind site. This site is unmaintained, (it looks it, ferns growing on tent sites). We could not hear traffic from hw 60. .... We were there this year in september."

this thread is older, but i actually just read it. Barry, we checked out if we could get into Victory lake, from Park lake,'but the entrance was totally grown shut, could not pass it with the canoe, and to swampy to walk it.
Selfrialence was looking for more of the route discription. Once entering at the end of the easy portage from hw 60, theres a short river piece to park lake. Along this stretch there are several cottages. River was plenty deep and wide, lots of floating moss islands etc. Park lake has an unofficial small, dark and dank campsite on the right hand side of the lake (across from hw 60) and traffic from here can be heard clearly. The river between park lake and Snow lake is wide, swampy and has a few undeep spots, but there was plenty of water for us in september 2015 to continue. the river part turns away from hw 60 towards snow lake The area looks little used.We did not see motorrized boats. The entrance to snow is plugged with vegetation, but getting through was not a real problem. With the tree buffer now between hw 60 and snow lake, we could no longer see or hear hw 60. We did see some beaverdams, but they did not obstruct anything. We carefully checked along the lakeside for the campsites, but the one on the point (older jeffs map) was not to be found, the one in the middle (barry marked it #1) is actually further down then indicated. Area gives the idea that it is not used much. From the campsite we could see the cottage that Jefsmap makes a reference too as being for sale for 1.5 mil. From what we could see it was not much more then a rangers cabin. No idea how people would access this cottage, unless theres a road access somewhere. In low water situations a motorboat might not be able to cross between park/river/snow or get into snow lake at all. We did not explore any further then the campsite, but maybe this will help.

On Jeff's map there seems to be a rough road from Troutspawn Lake Road to the cottages at both ends of the Snow-Greenwood portage.

We stayed on Victory Lake site in August. That is a nice site. Good space and decent landing. Of The Snow Lake sites we were only able to locate the one further down. Closest to the cabin.Very poor site condition. Wouldn't recommend it whatsoever. We accessed park lake from the up stream on the Oxtongue river from the outfitter .Hard to spot the portage. Not marked at river. Have to paddle a creek to get to take out.Could not located the site marked on Park either. Could hear the highway in the distance from Victory but could not see it. Heard some ATV traffic to the south but not visible.

It's not exactly sounding like a desirable area. The rest of the route makes up for it
