It typically all depends on the weather conditions in late March and early April. That said, in Ottawa at least we have about half the total ice we had last year at its max - curious to hear if that holds true closer to the park - I'm going with the ever popular "cautiously optimistic" =)

Breaking a paddle is likely rare, but we had another scenario almost unfold one spring. Windy evening, one of us dropped a paddle overboard in the process of landing a nice trout, which was OK, until the other one dropped over too, and in that wind they'd have disappeared fast. Luckily we grabbed the 2nd, and had no trouble tracking down the first. Sure I should have never left one across the gunnels, but trout can mess with your brain at times! I like the 2 different paddles idea for soloing, I now travel with a square blade and an otter tail, and often pick and choose accordingly.

I used an amazon gift card I'd received to buy a small guide version a couple years ago (7x10) very happy with it for solo trip purposes - it does the job well - I would have bought the 10x10 but it wasn't available at the time.
Likely going to pick up a 13x10 now for multi-person tripping. I was on the fence about sil-tarps forever, the cost always being a put-off, but these are great tarps and very well made (although not actually manufactured in Canada I don't believe . . .) I've got a dry-bag from them as well I'm quite pleased with

El Capitan 4 is pretty hard to beat for 3 adults, or a family of 4. 2 doors, 2 vestibules, heavy duty fly. fbeauregard called it - bombproof and dry - also, 12lbs or so isn't terrible for 3 adults if you average it out.

Saturday morning the mosquitoes were out in the SE corner of the park, but only on the lakes not in the bush, and they were not biting - I'd bet by this weekend that won't be the case - at least not in that corner

Not the lightest, but Eureka El Capitan tents have a very heavy duty fly and solid floor (which to me are the most critical spots to have it) I have a 4P for group camping, and its bomb proof, simple, and comes in 2P and 3P sizes as well . . . reasonable cost for performance.
I also acquired a solo size Naturehike (grey silicone version), and my take is that it is somewhat fragile, but heard the Big Agnes versions are as well (ultralight will never be ultra durable) That said, the fabric is great, and 100% water proof, its just the poles/zipper I'm cautious with, but solo, I see this as much less of a risk as its just me using it. I'm 5'8" and its basically just a spot to sleep and store clothes, but I can sit up, and pivot around in it, so suits me well.
As with all tents, I would NOT use the footprint under the tent though, it'll collect water. use it as a liner inside, and you're good to go.
