Believe a member mentioned owning a cottage near the 18A access point, but unfortunately can’t find the post. Will you be parking a second vehicle at 18B and doing a shuttle?

Without snow the road is in good shape to 18B up until the last kilometer which i've driven many times in a small compact car. The park had a 4 wheel drive warning for most of this past season even though IMHO the road to Cedar Lake is rougher. Sorry, not sure what condition the road is like for the last kilometer off of North Aylen Lake road (N Road on google maps) to 18A or when these roads are snow covered.

Hoping you post a trip report!

Biolight Range headlamp to get a rechargeable light to take on trips rather than carrying around extra batteries.

This is a great idea. My headlamp uses 4 AA batteries. Damn!

Love the Pocket Rocket and its rugged plastic case. Been using a Pocket Rocket since 2020. Have had no problems. Most of the time it's used to boil water. Great for rehydrating meals on a rainy day. Personally prefer cooking over a fire, as using the Pocket Rocket with a titanium or even stainless steel pot can make it hard to avoid burning food where the burner touches the pot. Fish fries work fine, though, as long as there’s enough oil in the frying pan.

Not looking at Black Friday sales. Don’t want to be tempted to buy more gear while complaining on the trail that i need to travel lighter.

Cheers!

Checked out that campsite during the summer of 2024. Did not see a good spot for a tent and/or hammock near the rock where the firepit is located. Appeared that people had pitched tents right next to the thunderbox which was a wreck. Whenever that site is red (booked) on the Ontario Parks reservation website have felt sorry for the campers who reserved that campsite. Wilkins and Robitaille have much nicer campsites.

Thanks for your trip report Andy and it was great meeting and speaking with you in the park. That was me camping on the island.. guess we like the same campsites.

As a side sleeper personally love bridge hammocks. First year of owning a hammock used an air mattress and it worked well until overnight temps got below zero. Ever since purchasing an under quilt before the second season began i have never had cold butt syndrome. Love hammock camping over tent camping wherever possible.

You got it, you're up Iain!

Pic taken of Hogan Lake from the portage landing to Big Crow which begins with some steeper inclines.

WIA 897 is a continuation of WIA 997, correcting the numbering used in the subject title.

The lake in the picture is not any of the following lakes previously mentioned in WIA 997:

La Muir
Big Trout
Philip
Burntroot at the end of the Robinson Lake portage
MacIntosh
Booth
Manitou
Smoke
McCraney

As the crow flies, the lake names are sorted in order of distance, from closest to furthest, from where the picture was taken. The distance between Smoke and Manitou, from where the pic was taken, is almost the same as the crow flies. Philp is closer to the lake in the picture than Big Trout using canoe routes, but further away from the portage landing where the pic was taken as the crow flies.
