Hey Team Algonquin,
A few years ago I picked up a 4L jug of Bio-Flame ethanol at Cdn Tire for use in my alcohol stove. I realized today when packing for an upcoming trip that I'm down to my last 250ml or less. I tried to check all the major retailers but none of them seem to stock ethanol anymore. Anyone know why?

After experimenting with different fuels I found ethanol to be the best. Was the safest burn in terms of respiratory concerns and, when diluted with water, was very economical. Bummer if I can't get it anymore. Thanks

@Mulder It will most certainly have to be communicated today. While many Park staff work weekends, I'm sure the Communications team (web services, external & internal comms etc...) and senior management follow more of a Monday - Friday schedule. Decisions will need to be firmed up today if not already made.
Regardless, I'm sure you'll be good to go for the 18th.

Yeah, why would they suspend one service and not the other if the plan is to keep the Park closed? No logic in that. Looking positive.

One way or another tomorrow will have to be decision day for a June 1 opening. On one hand I hate the uncertainty but on the other, no news is good news.

Well that's positive to say the least.
Looks like it's time to get the gear laid out and the boat ready! Ha

I have to ask, how solid is this rumour? Did it come from the Park?
Last thing I want at this stage is to get my hopes up only to face further disappointment...

Nice.
I actually need a mosquito deflector for the back of my Helinox. It's the one place they seem to be able to bite through for some reason.

Hmm. Never heard of it and I try to stay on top of anti-bug gear.
It looks like a compression shirt. It claims to be breathable but I assume it could get hot?
Interested to hear what people have to say.
Gloves look interesting. Little buggers always get me in the hands while portaging.

The heck? What have we become? I come here to briefly get away from all the negativity in the world. Shame.

Go every June and hope to this year as well. It's certainly not for everyone but I love it because you don't need to go far to get solitude.

I use the trifecta of chemical goods Spoonsy listed above but we also bring a good screen shelter to sit in during meals or the witching hours. Don't underestimate the value of a good old smokey fire and cigars to keep the bugs away.

Last June two park staff came into our back country site wearing short sleeved shirts and ball caps with no netting. We were pretty much in the equivalent of hazmat suits and I asked in them how they found the bugs. They were like, meh.
Crazy

Ok?
I can imagine it would have been worse for the chicken population.

I train Brazilian jiu-jitsu which I find helps with the physical and mental rigors of tough portages. As you can guess, I'm currently not training and to be honest, I don't know when it will be acceptable to get back to the dojo.
For now, I'm waking up and going for 45 min power walks each morning which gets a little bit of a sweat and really helps to clear the mind. I may start to throw the canoe on top of my head to make things interesting. It should also give me the right of way on the sidewalks, no? https://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/cute.png
