Reservation fee at the gate is up to the individual park's discretion as per the person I spoke to at the 1 800 booking phone line. Clear as mud. It was obvious I wasn't her first complainant on this topic.

Can you imagine going to a restaurant that has empty tables and they charge you a reservation fee on top of what you pay for the meal? I'd call that a reason to not go back to or even enter that restaurant. Streamlining your visit? Got to love having a monopoly. Perhaps a better term for this is theft.

I'll give it another try when I get home in a week. Currently on a road trip. Silent Lake, Sudbury and The Soo.

Checking to see if I can create a new topic. Put together a post for the drive in car camping topic and it never showed up. Wasting my time trying?

Spooky stuff. Wondering if park staff were alerted and had feedback? People can be weird and no telling what their story is. Doubt that it will come to light.

Seems to be unclear on whether they open prior to that date if the ice goes out? Tried reading between the lines but my glasses are a bit dirty.

Northern European zitt? What's with the attack on sponges? Abused in the sink all the time. Life is hard eh?
Those offspring were a pain in the butt last year. Had to keep your hand over your food and drink at all times. Hope they're gone this year.

That wagon looks mint. Is it also for sale?

The same BS would start up that already happens with car camping sites. Book a maximum length, 21-day stay for the prime site(s) you want in the backcountry 5 months in advance, because it lets you book those sites before anyone playing by the rules has access to them. Then update your booking a couple months later to remove the first two weeks of your trip, shortening it to the trip you planned all along. Sure you eat some fees in the process but hey - you got the campsites you wanted!
Sigh!
This scenario depresses me to no end. . . . . . . . .
You can be Don Quixote or you can play the game. Right or wrong is not in play.

Might also throw in a couple paddles to Toronto Island, Humber, and Credit rivers.
Love paddling out to the islands. We generally put in at Cherry Beach and paddle in through the eastern gap. It can get spicy with the large boats going through and the wave reflections off the break walls. Another spot you might want to try is the Rouge up from the lake shore. Haven't been there in a while but I recall having to get in on the east side of the river's mouth.
Trip Planning » fri may 13th algonquin opens up interior,, » 1/03/2022 1:03 pm |
Booked weeks ago. Hoping not to get shut out again this year and noticed that Doug has started putting in more restrictions again. That Friday should be a bit of a horror show if it happens and then the likely scenario of bookings opening before that date when ice out is decided upon. Might be interesting getting a site on the no or one portage lakes if you go in on the 13th.

Good to know. The park staff seemed adamant that no reservation means no entry as of Saturday. One way around that is to show up before the park gate opens.

I went to a local provincial park and went for a dip yesterday ... not algonquin but it was really nice to be in the water. The smell of burning charcoal and hot dogs didn't hurt either ...
(and it was free)
That is a nice perk for Monday through Thursday but as of Saturday you will need to book that free day visit 5 days in advance. Sounds like even when you pay Friday through Sunday it still requires a reservation. Lake Huron was tres pleasant yesterday and we had a nice paddle nearby before the heat got nasty.

June 11th my friends.
This is like following the ice out date thread. Anybody want to bet money on that date? What are the Vegas odds?

Got the message that one of our reservations straddling June 8th has been partially cancelled and that if I update by the 4th I can keep the last days of that trip from the 8th on. Already made other plans and will not update. Had enough disappointments this year.
Trip Planning » Almost there » 6/01/2021 11:33 am |
Reservation starting Thursday and hasn't been cancelled yet. I wonder how much money they make with the interest accrued on our bookings? Am I reading too much into this?

We are currently running almost a factor of 10 higher than the case rate for this date last year with the death rate being about the same.
