thanks for taking the time to reply,,  i have some good ideas from the responses,, 
  my first light was a petzel , it just wore out over time,, especially the head band,,  my second light is a black diamond ,, great light until it stopped working when i need it work,, now i do not trust that head light,

i was talking to my friend that has a place near maynooth,, he told me that there was 15 inches of ice on his lake,
    it will be a while yet ,, rain and high winds really help the melt,, and monsoon rains for sat , if the egg heads get the forcast right

if it is pen lake, i think barbara posted a photo of a bear standing near that spot , many years ago,,  i mentioned at that time the bear looked to have 3 legs,, however it was just the camera angle,,
