Haven't found the current going up the Nipissing difficult. Been up to Luckless via the Nip with no issues. Portage is nice for a long one. It would be a long day to paddle Cedar to the Nadine portage on the Nipissing. That being said it's not bad to paddle the other way downstream. Easy to do in a day downstream. Prefer the Nip over portaging the Pet with Unicorn Hill. Done heart attack hill (Little Nadine - Little Olser), coming from Erables, one time to many. This year, like last, booked to go to the Osler's via Cedar - Nip - Luckless - Plumb - Whiskey Jack - Nadine - Little Osler then backtrack down the Nip. Avoiding heart attack hill again this year. May decide to venture up heart attack hill the easy way, from Little Osler to make a cell call. Yes... always been able to make phone calls on top of heart attack hill. Spotty reception but good enough to usually make a call. Nice rock to sit on right at the top of the hill.

Been looking for that type of cord myself. Acquired the cordage after buying a canoe from Swift off of highway 11 in 2019. Swift provided the same "ancient tarp cord" so I could tie down my canoe. Still have all the cords. It's great stuff, but I too haven't been able to find and buy... I've been looking for quite sometime. If I ever find a retailer I'll let you know.

Option #1 is a really nice route in my humble opinion. In June 2021 the campsite on Little Misty was covered in goose poo along with turds from many other animals. Never seen so much scat in one area in my entire life and I'm an old man! The Little Misty site also had 4 of those Ontario Provincial Park firepit grates... the really heavy grates/grill with legs. Still not sure how that single site acquired four of those grills/grates? Can't imagine anyone transporting those grates in a canoe and portaging with them.. those grates/grills are heavy.

Anyways, if I were to do that loop again I'd stay on Misty instead of Little Misty. There are a few really nice campsites on Misty Lake. Last August I stayed on the Misty Lake campsite that Trippythings reviewed and camped on... great campsite in August! Usually I like having the only campsite on the lake but Little Misty I wouldn't do again. Think you've made a good decision to stay on Misty.

The Petawawa or the Nipissing River to Luckless Lake from Cedar? Travel will be in a 15 foot solo canoe. A double blade/kayak paddle can be used. Expect to single carry the portages. I'll be travelling alone.

Up the Petawawa River, walk the 2345m unicorn hill portage, which I 've done a few times before, or, go up the Nipissing River to the 2960m portage into Luckless? The total portage distances are almost the same to Luckless no matter which river is taken. 

I wonder if the current on the Nipissing will be strong going upstream? I've only come down this section of the river... never went up the Nipissing from Cedar lake. Been up the Petawawa from Cedar to Catfish a few times.

Any suggestions, advice?
