Insulated leather palmed work gloves treated with a good dose of Canadian Tire canvas waterproofing spray work well for me as an all around spring fishing trip work glove. Neoprene paddling gloves are good too but you have to find the neoprene thickness that works best for you. Thin and flexible isn't really that warm and the thicker ones are warm but stiff. I might have found the right balance now.

My spring footwear choice is still a snug pair of rubber boots with 2 pairs of merino wool socks. They are inexpensive and with the right fit provide pretty good support. If you happen to wear orthotics, then remember to use them in your boots too. NRS Boundary boots have been on my wishlist but have never quite made it into the budget.

Boat registry is federal, not provincial. I don't know for sure that provinces couldn't implement another layer of boat registry but it doesn't exist today.

I'd also compare tracking boat "id's" to photo radar - it only identifies the vehicle, it doesn't hold an individual responsible. .

Thinking from a park/wildlife/habitat management perspective, I think there would be a far greater impact if the park was to shut down sites periodically for recovery and if they permanently closed the many sites that don't have proper space for either the campsite or the thunderbox. Some that stick out for me are the sites squeezed between the old rail bed and the lake on Cauchon.

I'm not in favour of registration #s for canoes or other small watercraft. That introduces paperwork that doesn't have any obvious connection to the user behaviour.

For reference, Transport Canada has introduced a requirement this year to start renewing registrations for the boats that already have registration #'s. Until now, boat registrations have been permanent. One likely reason to introduce renewals is because changing the registered ownership probably wasn't happening very much, particularly in cases like aluminum cottage boats that last forever and  had been in the family and no one would even think of updating the ownership when the 'paper' owner died. I expect that updating ownerships can be done online now, but last time we had to do one it was a real pain to even figure out how to get a transfer form and where to mail it.

Bottom line, registering canoes and other small boats wouldn't do anything to impact the user behaviour.

Makes me think of Ryan lake but it's been awhile since I was there.

Having been hit with the Derecho storm a few years ago and having most of our cottage island flattened, I expect that it looks worse than it is. That is not to suggest there aren't trees criss crossed on top of other trees, but rather that these really aren't dangerous areas. The trees have already come down, they aren't going to fall on you.

If there is enough open space for a tent and a path to the thunderbox, then the sites may well be usable. There may be less usable space at the moment than I expect a lot of Opeongo sites had, but I've also stayed on Algonquin sites that were pretty tiny and I couldn't believe they were actually being used as sites.

I wouldn't expect Algonquin to clear cut blow downs the way they did in Samuel de Champlain. They should do enough cutting to free up space around the fire pits and make sure the thunderboxes are accessible, but that's it. Campers will take care of the rest of the deadfall soon enough.

Hmmm, there's a portage route that would take you north from Parkside Bay back to West Bay on Smoke Lake. I've never taken, but the 2nd picture reminds me of Parkside Bay.

Yeah, the Osprey was my wishlist solo for a long time, but when I finally had the cash the Shearwater was the better size with my Lab.

I'll give a fairly standard first hint that it's north of 60.

I haven't been able to log in for well over a week. It takes user ID and PWD and goes to the search page in the forums but it still isn't showing you logged in at that point. I asked about it in the WCA member forum on Facebook and folks were following up, but no updates.

You should be good for a decent trip by May, just make sure you are committed to your rehab and conditioning. You might even end up more prepared than you would have otherwise.

That's a Swift Shearwater which was the larger John Winters designed solo. The Keewaydin 15 is a close copy in their current line up.

But still no correct guesses. I'll give it another day or so before offering a clue. I was expecting this to be another quick one.
