Trip Planning » Cellular service along Hwy 60 ( especially Cannisby Bay PaddleIn sites » 5/23/2022 12:07 pm

Thank you to all who gave me advice on this matter

I ended up going to a Grand Lake on a solo trip and was able to fish Carcajou Bay , Upper and Lower Spectacle on my first day and Rowan on my second day .. sadly caught nothing , one possible bite on Rowan
and oddles of Bugs swarming but not really biting but quite the nuisance unless you like bug protein in your porridge

Catch-all Discussions » Trout in Lakes near the Canisbay canoe in sites » 5/07/2022 3:55 pm

Hi
I am planning  to do a 4-5 day canoe trip  into the  Canisbay canoe into campsites  (easy does it trip eh  seeing itā€™s my  first trip of the year for 3 years) and as such I am also likely to try out my fishing luck on nearby lakes with supposed non  official portages

Thinking Olive, Longspur and Kathlyn might be worth
the  effort  even if it is a bush wack  trail.
Anybody have advice on the endeavour ?

TIA

Trip Planning » Cellular service along Hwy 60 ( especially Cannisby Bay PaddleIn sites » 5/03/2022 8:03 pm

No really a fan of cell service when tripping  but does anybody know if
cell service is likely to work on the Paddle In sites on the Cannisby Bay paddle in sites

Just a contingency as my partner has a in-law relative that  has been admitted to  the SunnyBrook hospital in Toronto ( Palative care)  with
Restricted visiting to immediate sons and daughters
Therefore being able to be contacted by phone in case things turn worse is one thing we are looking at to possibly savage a spring fishing  trip and do a Cannisby Bay Paddle in site plus do some day trips to stocked lakes along  highway 60

So, has anybody used cell service on the interior sites on Cannisby Bay

Alternatively , what about cell service on Sunday Lake if Cannisby Bay paddle in sites are too far off the Hwy60 corridor for cell service

Thanks
Randy

How do you recharge your Fitbit, mine needs recharging every 3-4 days so on a 7 day trip it would be useless for almost half the trip

Mind you I do have a solar charger for charging my cell phone which we take for its camera function ( cellular and Bluetooth turned off so it does last the week but if on a longer trip we decided it would be a good idea to bring a small Renolgy solar charger

Is the road in fully open again .
Considering a bike in trip or are there other options beside ā€œportaging or wheelingā€in  a canoe over the 14km or so of access roads

Wondering if anybody can shed light on the
Rock  Creek portion of this possible trip.

Thinking a possible Spring trip when water levels
should be higher but would like to know if anybody has
traveled from access#10 to Rock Lake in the recent past

Yes sir, Jimmy is quite the individual.
One thing for sure he is always on time for a water taxi pickupĀ
and should you arrive a tad early you might find him restingĀ
at the portage :-)Ā

Pic#2 is correct (Allan) but your guess of Waterclear for Pic#1 is incorrect

MNR says : Species in that lake depicted in Pic#1 are
( Or so says Paddle Planner)
Brook Trout
Lake Trout
Brook Stickleback
Finescale Dace
Northern Redbelly Dace

Not Aura Lee Lake

We entered this lake from the east but could of easily come in from the west

Writing the log helped with cabin fever as does Mark in the Park Season 2

Kudos to Barry as his layout of the trip log definitely enhanced the final result with picture enhancement like ā€œ click for larger imageā€

Thanks to all for reading the trip log and your feedback . Hereā€™s  hoping we can possibly get a trip of two in the park this season

Til then
Stay safe

For Pic#1 you are close, we camped the first night on Little Cauchon having arrived the day before in pouring rain and made camp asap to try and dry outĀ

Pic #2 , not even close... enroute to start point of Of MITP season 2 You would of made Ā just a slight jog Of the main road to reach theĀ start point for this lakeĀ

Bo Knows should know where Pic 2 was taken but what about Pic #1

Another hint for Pic#2, the name of the Lake starts with with a letter closer to the start of the alphabet than the end  and the name of the Lake to the west is closer to the middle of the alphabet than either end .

Two hints:

Pic#1
Starting point of the trip that ended up on this lake the second day started at the sameĀ  Starting point as MITPseason2. From that access starting point  it is an easy paddle to To this lake assuming the water is not to high and you do not get stuck under the overpass ;-)

Pic#2
The starting point of this trip was passed during the trip requiredĀ  to the starting point of Pic#1. From there is and easy trip in to this island site. A lake to the West of this lake that is not normally accessed from this lake is also an excellent lake for trout.
