I’ve been looking at the park ice out web page every couple hours for the last week lol. Lake of two rivers has lost a lot of ice in the last few days. Also the modis imagery from yesterday shows a surprisingly large area of dark weak ice both on Opeongo (east arm and south central arm) and Lavielle…even with more seasonal temps coming this week to me It looks like ice out April 28-29…

The next two days are cloudy so there won’t be any clear satellite pics. Since rain and wind is forecast for Wednesday I think they will have an aircraft flyover early Thursday morning with an announcement by noon latest. Sadly I am pretty sure I won’t be happy  with the news.

Hey guys thanks for all the responses. It looks like I will get a GoPro, just have to decide on which one. And Uppa, I do actually have the Olympus TG4. Great camera. I haven’t really used much video with it but maybe I should!

Still leaning towards the GoPro as dedicated video cam. It seems the white model has most of what I need at half the price of the black model, but wish I could swap batteries. What Micro SD card are most people using with these? Also how much video are you guys getting on a card? Obviously depends on resolution but just wondering if anyone can let me know averages to expect.

Thanks again for all your input.

Guys,

With my son growing up and us doing so nice, more remote trips, thought it might be time to get an action camera. Lots of options, I don’t need top end but don’t want to get something I will regret either. Anyone have an ideas/opinions? GoPro 7 has three versions, for sure don’t need the Black version, but maybe the white might fit me best as s first time buyer.

All feedback welcome!

Thanks,

Moonman.

I'm already nostalgic for this thread even though the body is still warm. So my ice out prediction for next year is Tuesday May 7. You heard it here first!

Yes, its up on the website now. I just got off the phone with the reservation service though and they still don't know the opening date has been extended till May 11, so I have to call back to make the change without penalty.

The Nahanni is an excellent boat. I love Swift's, my personal boat is a cedar strip Winisk,. but back when I used to rent, I always grabbed a Kipiwa, a great all around tripping boat. The Nahanni (good good friend owns one) I found to be more refined, and it was definitely a bit faster, although the kip isn't slow. If you can get a deal on it and its in decent shape I would grab it fast.

There are many many fantastic sites on Lavielle....A few o the islands at the southeast end are really nice (Crow Island area) , as are a few around that group of 4-5 near the main entrance from Corw Bay, also there is an awesome site at the southwest end, on the small island that has two sites. The northen most site is one of my favs on that lake.

Ha Ha,

I've been to several. Big Crow is certainly one of the best, especially for hiking up to the Fire Tower, not as private as some though....For (trout) fishing, I would say Nipissing River (Highview) and Birchcliffe, for neighboring lakes. You can even do a (big) loop and stay at both those cabins for a week...for bass, Rain Lake, lakers and bass in Rain, and very good smallies via day trips nearby...

I did the same thing for my Bachelor Party and coincidentaly with my recent thread, I had it on Ralph Bice. I also had friends of varying skill levels, and had someting like 15 guys. We picked Ralph Bice because it had two really short and easy portages and was very close to the access point on Magnetewan. We camped on the norhern island, Its a beautiful spot, but more importantly has 4 sites on a relatively small island so we could alll hang out in close proximity, still adhering to the nine person campsite limit.  Very easy drive from Orillia as well. If you wanted a little more seclusion you could also add the 600m port west and head into David lake.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Wolfpaddle, much appreaciated. Did you get a chance to check out any of the other sites on that peninsula?
Is the site on the acrtual south side of the point or more southeast. Hard to tell on all the maps I've looked at.

Thanks for all your help!

Regards,

Moonman.
