Came out Sat. Bugs are fine. Better than expected for very early July. Going in next week again will likely just bring a small head net and 1 can of spray.

Thanks Shawn!

Thats what I like to hear! Probably just do the same then

Trip Planning » Print Permits or pick up in Person » 7/06/2020 12:17 pm

Thanks for the info everyone!

Nice to know I can get out early. I know we all believe this is the way it should be with preprinted permits but would be nice if they had a checkin button the day before/of so they know you went, especially in busy times where it could open up a campsite for day of reservations.

Aw well, Ill get my wife to call Friday morning and tell them I am out there!

Trip Planning » Print Permits or pick up in Person » 7/06/2020 10:03 am

Hey Everyone!

Been trying to find an answer to this. I know my first trip on June 4th I just printed the permit at home (actually just printed confirmation email twice and left one on my dash as I couldnt find where to print the permit) but I am not sure if thats changed and we now have to stop in at a permit office for backcountry permits?

Hope everyone is staying safe and finding ways to enjoy the summer so far!

Cheers!

Sell and Swap » Werner Kalliste Paddle » 3/14/2020 2:51 pm

Hey Everyone!

I have a brand new Werner Kalliste 250cm 2 piece straight shaft kayak paddle. I bought it for my solo pack boat but need a different size and because it has touched water its technically used but there isn't a mark on it.

If anyone is interested please let me know and I can send some pictures.

Cheers!

Catch-all Discussions » ice out 2019 - too early to discuss? » 5/09/2019 9:00 pm

Uppa I feel your frustration. It seems to be the pattern every year now: an initial delay that seems reasonable and then a second delay that seems like an overreaction.

Atleast this year they are admitting it was pre-emptive and leaving the door open for an earlier ice out.

I atleast have faith in that otherwise I am not sure why they would make that tweet 24hrs after announcing an added five day delay...that seems very odd if they dont plan on opening earlier as I am quite certain the water taxi will be able to get up Opeongo by Saturday afternoon after today and tomorrows wind and rain.

Geez now my email and guy on the phone at Ontario Parks says all backcountry is delayed till the 15th...

Catch-all Discussions » ice out 2019 - too early to discuss? » 5/08/2019 5:10 pm

After the wind and rain tomorrow and warm temps Saturday/Sunday you will definitely be fine for the 15th.

Geez in 18 years I don't think I've ever seen Lake Nippissing ice out this long before Algonquin...crazy

Working on it as we speak :D

Yea, as Paddlerunner mentioned we've been aiming for end of April or early May. Will probably be early May.

But the good news is that we're almost done! Just putting the finishing touches on it at this point

Jeff the anticipation of this AND ice out this year is too much for my anxious "wanna get canoeing" brain

And yes just TAKE MY MONEY ALREADY!!

Weather forecast up until May 1 is looking good: Double digits 12 out of 14 days and above zero nights 12 of 14 nights.

Any of the the glass half empty (and rightly so, not taking shots at anyone lol) coming around on a possible May 3rd open? Or I guess I should say May 3rd Ice Out and hopefully Park Management gets their heads outta you know where and opens that weekend haha

Hope the cabin fever is breaking for everyone!

Catch-all Discussions » ice out 2019 - too early to discuss? » 3/14/2019 12:11 pm

I initially was hopeful for May 3rd but I can echo how thick the ice is this year. I just hope the actual 'Spring" temps they are calling for this year come to fruition and it balances out.

All that aside as I've said since new management took over the park who knows what they will do. Last year going out Cedar on the day they called ice out the lake was still half covered in ice. Atleast the current from the Pet opened up a channel from the access point to the portage but there was no way anyone was getting down to radiant that day.

Fingers crossed for earlier then its been lately!

Sell and Swap » Frost River Timber Cruiser and Palisade Packs » 11/15/2018 11:15 am

Ya I understand that. Not that its that much of a difference but at this point I could let them go for $450.

Cheers!

Sell and Swap » Frost River Timber Cruiser and Palisade Packs » 11/14/2018 9:21 pm

Well that was a bit of an oversight on my part not putting a price...sorry everyone.

I am a little embarrassed to say I paid $750 for the 2 packs from Canadian Outdoor Equipment 2 years ago.

I'd like to get $500 for them if thats realistic. The Timber Cruiser alone sells for $520 before tax.

Cheers!

Sell and Swap » Frost River Timber Cruiser and Palisade Packs » 11/14/2018 8:00 am

Hey All!

My wife just had twins so needless to say I need to raise some extra money to get through her year of mat leave so Ive decided to sell my Frost river packs as I wont be getting out for any lengthy trips that require this pack for a few years.

I just thought I'd post it here to see if there was interest before I put it up for sale elsewhere.

Here are the 2 packs:

https://www.frostriver.com/timber-cruiser-pack/

https://www.frostriver.com/palisade-attachable-portage-pack/

They are 2 years old. I have an upgraded padded waisttbelt and the palisade pack attatchment hardware is all installed on the Timber Cruiser.
