Photos and Videos To Share » A Couple Night Shots from Last Week » 11/10/2021 11:16 am |
Was up in the east end of the park last week and took a couple night pics. Was really hoping to get some aurora shots as they were calling for it and the skies were super clear. Couldn't see anything with the naked eye so was a bit disappointed but it seems as though the camera picked up a bit of colour in at least the one shot!

If you email the Algonquin Forestry Authority they will be able to tell you exactly where and when they will be hauling. I've emailed them a few times before a trip and they have been a fantastic source of info. Sometimes even though they are marked as hauling in an area in the fall, they aren't active in the same spot you may be at that time. They've been very helpful when I've emailed them.

I actually ended up getting this chair: https://www.woodscanada.com/products/siesta-folding-reclining-padded-camping-chair-dijon
Seems super comfy and I love that it reclines. The true test will be when I get to sit around a fire for 5 hours in the near future

So I'm looking to get a new camp chair for car camping and I'm hoping to get some suggestions. I'm currently using a Costco chair but it's just not very comfy (although I love the side table). For back country I use my Helinox One and it is fine. I really like the idea of this one but some of the reviews are putting me off (squeezes the legs, back poles break through the fabric, etc.): https://www.nemoequipment.com/product/stargaze-luxury/
Not really worried about cost but I want something that I can sit by the fire for hours in and be comfy.
Thanks!

How did they taste?
Hahaha jk, those are beauty pics!!
There are sooooo many mushrooms in the park this year, it would be great to have the expertise to know which are edible.
Lol I totally agree I love mushrooms but not nearly confident enough to bet my life on eating one that I can't identify!

Thanks Barry this is always very useful. I've emailed them each year before going on a trip and I always get a thorough response, usually with some added info about the area as well. Great resource for planning a trip!

It's official, April 10th!...... still holding out hope that they open the backcountry in April despite the ongoing restrictions. Watching the covid update website closely.

I agree with Steve, they won't be opening up any overnight camping during the current stay at home order.
On the other hand I am hopeful that they will open up reservations starting May 3rd or whatever the exact day is that the stay at home order expires.
I was planning a trip to the park with my son starting May 3, but the 28 days from the start of the order takes it to May 6th I believe

This program scares me to be honest. It will have a negative impact on revenue - especially for parks like Sandbanks which was packed by day users during the week last summer. Any drop in revenue then becomes an argument for reduced investment and funding in the future.
Exactly...but then they'll make up for that lost profit by jacking up the cost of back country sites for solo/couple users...ugh...

Awesome report and wicked pics Peek! I know the Tim isn't for everyone as some find it too boring, but I personally love paddling the Tim. Always get that sense of you never know what's around that next bend...Those campsites looked fantastic as well....

You can see the link in the post I did above to a CTV story.
Ah sorry man I didn't actually read the link...my bad
