Looks like the Government is finally updating the regs.
Thoughts, opinions... To much, to little, to late?

Do rangers (wardens) have the authority to search your food pack?

I believe it is based on probable cause to believe you may be concealing something, and yes this would include your tent.
Also keep in mind most rangers or C.O.'S have been watching your site with big binoculars from the lake and probable cause has probably been established long before they step out of the canoe.

Barry you have the right idea about writing the Park but I do not think you are going high enough up the food chain.
You Might want to write to whoever is the local MP overseeing Ontario Parks (hopefully someone can provide the name and contact info) and ask when are they going to release funds to Ontario Parks allowing them to hire more Conservation Officers to deal with the escalating problems developing in the back country and to design and institute an educational program to help prevent these escalating problems before they arise.
That being said, Bib, unfortunately I agree with you.

The local pickerel and trout population love them, especially when presenred at the end of a single hook pickerel rig.

Well I will admit when I am wrong.  Really did not see them opening the same day as ice out.
The cynic in me says this has a LOT to do with the election this year.

Mole skin is already in the first aid kit. And that is something I really need to pair down, right now my first aid kit is something a second year medical student would be proud of.

Thanks for the tips and advise. I have been meaning to pick up a set of walking sticks anyway and I never thought of marking water spots. Camping on lakes had spoiled me.
Also never thought of the extra foot care on the first aid kit. Kind of obvious when I think and it.

Jdbonney ya, moved last year and Pukaskwa is a 45 min drive so I figured I should do this while I still can.

This Summer I an thinking of doing my first, and probably my last backpacking trip.
About 10ish K each way just to walk over a suspension bridge.
So other than pack lighter what is the 1 peice of advice you would give a solo canoeist heading out on what is pretty much a stupid long portage without the canoe?

Do not count on this.
I was on the Pic River Res Wednesday (1KM from the Pukaskwa National Park) and the kid behind the counter in the store said my price for gas without a status card was $181.9. Gas in town today is $171.9
