I'm pretty sure that Rouge Lake wouldn't even exist if it weren't for the railway embankment disrupting the natural drainage of the area.  Rouge lake at least makes that bit paddleable.

Hi Barry.  Way off topic  but your photo prompted my comment.  I think you should consider reestablishing your photo contest.  I'm not sure if you would need to reel it back in from AO or not, but they seem to have abandoned it,  (or perhaps I am just not seeing the notices.)

Why would they want to change it?  Just leave it as it is and it will be correct in a year or two.

I'm agin it, but then, I'm an old curmudgeon.  Most of that stuff ends up in the fire pit.

I guess the interesting question is who is responsible for that road as it is not in the park.

The thing is that the domain registration has not expired.  Algonquinmap.com expires on 2023-01-12 while jeffsmap.com expires on 2022-05-30.  So the account may well be suspended, but it is not because the domain registration has expired.

Not for me.  Try clearing your cache.  But maybe you don't want to do that.

The road is terrible, but you must now know that.  It is dry and passable but potholed to an extent  I have never experienced before.  But it gets better, the farther you go.  The first 5km are the worst.  Inside the park itself, the road is not too bad.

Barron River.  Downstream of the canyon, upstream of Ignace Creek.  (That would require a campsite on that point.)

@Swift Fifteen:  Thank you for your comments.  All is well and no harm done.

Based on this morning's drive in our local neighbourhood (upper Ottawa Valley), I am optimistic that the thaw is well underway.  The park probably won't be ice free by the coming weekend, but it should be soon thereafter.  I'm going to attempt a drive in this coming week to have a closer looks.

No.  In the past, the park never closed.

What do you mean, "No"?  Did you bother to read my entire comment?  "..as long as I can remember"  Despite the fact you skipped over that part, do you have anything else to contribute?

I guess I'm a little taken aback by your response.  I may be getting on but my memory is not failing to the extent that I can't remember a few years back.  I would have thought that someone younger could do better than that.  The critical change happened in about 2011 when John Winters retired as Park Superintendent.  The nanny state ensued a year or two later.  Here's a description of me enjoying my mid April birthday in the Park in 2012 ( https://mcelroy.ca/bushlog/20120413.html )

So my apologies if you feel I did not read your post.  I really did; I just asumed you could remember back ten years.  Obviously I was wrong.
