Trip Planning » Little Billings to Branch Lake - Low water issues? » 5/10/2016 7:41 pm

Thanks for the tip!  I assumed the Little Hay -> Billings section would be the easy part; I'll have to ask around to see if it's been cleaned at all in the past few years.

And ya, Big Mink I was thinking of is outside of the park.  Worst case scenario it would be a bit of bush whacking upriver a little bit.  But coming out there would make arranging a pickup a bit easier.

Has anyone been through the creek (York River?) from Little Billings south to Branch Lake?  Jeff's Map has a warning that low water level can prevent travel between the two lakes.  Any idea just how low it gets?

For that matter, has anyone done the trip from Hay Lake right down down to Big Mink Lake?  I'm thinking of trying it in mid August, but water levels could certainly be of concern then.  I don't mind if its difficult, I just want to have a somewhat accurate estimate of the time required.

Thanks.

East end of the Barron river somewhere?

Oh man, the Blackwater looks so good.  But damn is it expensive too.  Assuming those prices are USD, that works out to nearly $5k CDN.

Does anyone have any experience paddling this canoe?

How about any other "performance touring" solo canoes?  I'm a pretty experienced paddler and am looking for something quick that I can mess around with using a sit and switch paddling style.  Ideally I'd like to use it for some fast-n-light tripping, getting into some places quickly for early morning photography, as well a (unfortunately) part of a summer workout.

Any other suggestions?

Happy Isle, across from the portage to Merchant?

If I'm allowed two guesses; Shah?

You got it Lonestroker, it's Greenleaf!

Nope not Shirley.

A couple more clues:
1. It's further east than any of the previous guesses.
2. The low-lying part of the lake you can see isn't really characteristic of the rest of the lake.

Ok 24 hours later; here's the first clue: it's somewhere east of Opeongo.
