That's it. Stopped there simply because the distances made sense but was a decent site.

No rainbows with that kind of downpour.
Like rainbow, it is close to a hwy 60 access point. Unlike rainbow, you can make it there without a portage.

Still not Joe.
May be near an access point but I suspect 95% of people starting there go the other direction.

Opeongo is the closest of these though still a very long day away.
As a hint, it's within a hour of a reasonably well used access point.

Too small and way too North.

Reminds me of an island site in North Opeongo
| Equipment » Portaging a solo canoe with detachable yoke. » 5/20/2026 3:38 pm |
I'm sure most of us have been there. The solution I figured out was to pack less (also removed the top pouch of a backpack).
Longer trips, I use a 55L ultralight backpack for food and essential gear and a smaller slogg (35L?) pack for down and clothing. The slogg fits fine under the yoke for double carries and the bigger pack works as long as it's not too full. For a singkle carry, the slogg is essentially small enough to use as a front pack. Mostly dehydrated food and little room for luxuries though. On more leisurely trips with less portaging, I'm just resigned to multiple carries (mec scully 150 plus a day pack, chair, and maybe a cooler).
It's brilliant if you can figure it out as solos are often balanced enough to do flat portages with no hands.

Don't know exactly what your issues are and there's a huge variety of braces from simple sleeves to mechanical monstrosities. I've used them on and off for sports and in general, the more support, the less comfort over the long term.
My first suggestion would be to talk to some kind of medical professional about what issues you have. The other is to spend a lot of time doing knee and leg rehab. Makes a huge difference.

Only possible hiccup - first time I did the Mouse-Big Thunder portage in mid July was 35 degrees. Only 50 m elevation change but I felt it.

Considering every provincial government body is desperately trying to cut costs, I can't see any momentum to do this. If they are shutting down permit offices, it's not likely they will add any other enforcement and it's been pretty rare to see wardens in the backcountry. Without enforcement, all we'd have is a tip line for people to complain to without any reasonable means of actually doing anything about it.
I get the intent and the need. Since covid, the new camper long weekend types have gotten worse but without some kind of way of punishing bad behaviour, all we're really left with is planning trips even further from the beaten path.
p.s. I keep having fantasies of doing a navy seal swim and 'relocating' the paddles of obnoxious groups as they sleep.

Thanks everyone. Good to have an option if rehab doesn't go well.
