Hi Eddy, is there a particular brand you use and where would I be able to purchase this?  I'm on an experimental run right now before my first camp trip and will be bringing a few good recomendated products.

I just looked at the Herbal Armor link, reviews and feedback looks good. Definitely interested. How often did you find you had to reapply?

Good links Rob, thanks!  I'm interested in the lemon eucalyptus.  Just hope it doesn't smell like citronella oil, had to turn the car window down the whole way home once bc we smelled real bad!

Have to do more reading on the Picaridin first but it def sounds better than my sac of herbs scattered around the bench.  ..Wonder if that would be considered as leaving food out in the open...does anyone know?  Wouldn't want to get in trouble by the park staff if I did try.

Hello,

Now that the camping season is back I wanted to put this out to see if anyone has any alternatives to repel mosquitos without the use of deet products.  Lately I've been hearing more about the negative side effects of deet and would like to venture into the use of a more natual product.

I've heard once that stuffing your pockets with rosemary works.  Unfortunately being allergic to bites prevents me from being able to experiment myself.

Has anyone on this site personally tried or know of any effective natual remedies that they have tested out in the past?

Perfect!  Exactly what I need.

Out of curiosity, where should we set up the recorder/recorders for best results?  Should it be pointed owards an open field, trees, ..by the water perhaps?

Hi All,

Hope this is the right section for the post.  Just got back a couple of weeks ago from a Yurting trip and saw plenty of animal prints in the snow but no signs of the animal itself.  The only thing we saw were chipmunks and birds.

Does anyone know of any affordable video device that can be set up at night on record so that we could catch these animals in action?

I thought it was an odd faceoff too but they kept shifting in circles looking like they wanted to eat one another lol

After over 3 hrs I saw a big beetle sitting on the dragonfly's back:/  ..two against one.  Stopped checking up on them after that.  But since you were the only reply bragging right goes over to you Peek!

Happy Friday!

Just a friendly Thursday end of work picture to share.  Came by a frog and a huge dragonfly doing a 3 hour long stare down.

Who had who for dinner after 3 hours or was it a tie?  Any guesses?  Winner gets bragging rights!

Hmmm.. intimidating responses!  With all this new information I think we may be leaning more towards the yurts.  If by chance we end up tent camping this winter I do have a few more questions below if any would know the answer to them..

The Lake of Two Rivers Store will be closed too?
Would we still be able to purchases firewood at the park?
Will the showers be operating during that time?
We've never tried a hydro site before, would we need one of those long electrical extension cords to bring into our tents to plug our heating units into?

Oh boy, this sounds like a whole new level of camping! Lol. Getting the impression that the snowfall level will be completely different than what we get in the city.

Thanks for all the details everyone. This should be very interesting..

Lol @ Rob. Don't jinx it, power outage during the middle of the night would be a nightmare.

Would there be snow yet up at Algonquin in January?  Also, does anyone have any reliable portable heater brands to share?

Steve, thx for the electric blanket suggestion!  Thats going to be a life saver

Hi All,

I'm trying to plan a 3 nighter (Jan.1-4) yurt camping trip in Algonquin but the space is very limited.  This will be my first attempt during the winter season so if anyone here may be experienced and could share a tip or two that would be very much appreciated

Aside from yurts are there options to car camp with a tent during these dates or would the parks be closed for tents?.. Just trying to get a general idea of how this works.  Also, would the water be frozen over or would I still be able to fish?

Thanks for your help in advance

Susan
