That is what I was thinking as well since this last trip was the latest in the season I had been on Booth. The water level was much lower compared to my past trips. Thanks

Last week I was up on Booth Lake and couldn't help but notice the water depth compared to a previous trip to that lake. I'm curious about the science behind controlling the water levels. I tried to look it up but so far haven't found any information. There are many dams in the park and I'm sure there are multiple reasons for there being there as I'm sure the lakes would look much different without them as some would be so much more shallow. Looking for any information on their current purpose and who makes the decisions on where to set the levels?

My wife and I stayed on Timberwolf on the island called Snake Island. It has a really nice west facing beach area and it was very private. Misty is great as well though.

Just completed our 2021 Algonquin trip with family. First loop trip for the kids and they killed it! Unmaintained portages, mucky put-ins and really hot weather were all part of the experience. The Wee, Way and Weed portions were not as bad as I had expected from reading some other trip logs people had posted. This was a great trip for swimming and fishing. We really enjoyed the lakes we visited. Rain lake access was busier than I have ever seen it. We almost couldn't find parking and had to get creative. 1st trip in over 50 trips where we had virtually no wind and no rain for 6 days. I really loved McCraney lake and will definitely be going back there some day! Both lakes were showing online to be fully booked but this wasn't the case when we arrived it looked like we shared the whole lakes with only 1 or 2 other groups. The unmaintained portage portion of the loop had its challenges but overall the portages were in good condition, though less traveled were easy to follow. Two canoes 2 large dogs and 4 children made for a busy time for my wife and I but we wouldn't change it for anything! My only hope is that one day our children follow in our footsteps.

My wife and I stayed on S/E end of island. We really liked our site. The one on the West end is also nice. We came in through Cache. I believe the site on the North shore was not that great. Our trip was late October.

This is doable for sure. Stayed on that site on Misty Fork back in 2011. Its not a great site but after a long day of paddling it doesn't really matter. I agree with TripperMike the site directly across from Pet portage is really nice. The Brule lake site is up about 12, from the water and makes for some tough fishing from the shore. Its a nice site and nice fire pit. Really enjoy this part of the park. Good luck with your planning!

Just booked May loop trip Welcome, Frank, Louisa! Expecting Frank site to be an adventure from what I have read. At least we will have the lake to ourselves even if we are sleeping on roots on that site.lol. Going the later part of May to avoid ice delays.

Looking for any information on quality of the Tim River campsite downstream of Shah lake portage. If anyone has recent info on water level from Shah lake portage to Ship that would also be helpful. Thanks

Canoe lake or West Gate. I stayed on island in 2012. I think there is a video compilation on our blog  DawsonbrothersAlgonquintrips. Iris lake site was fun to explore as well.

Booked Kenneth for May. Wanted to add it to my list of lakes camped on. It's satisfying adding a pin to the Algonquin map...lol.
