ReHydrating

I have some store bought dehydrated soups I've used in the past but the simmer time is 30min or more. Can you just soak the soup mix in cold water for a couple hours then just heat it up afterwards to save fuel.

Re: ReHydrating

Yes you can definitely pre-soak.

An even better way to save fuel is to use pot cosies - once you've boiled the soup, take off the heat and put the pot in teh cosy (instead of simmering for 30 minutes).

Re: ReHydrating

I can attest to the benefits of pot cozies. Just got one for $7 at MEC before a trip last week.We use it for rehydrated meals and to keep water hot for washing up after we've made our hot drinks and oatmeal.
