Re: how many people by law are allowed on a interior site?

Barry, the sand lake gate has those stickers you sign and they attach to your permit - I pointed out the rule change several years ago and the clerk was completely unaware.

I told them I wouldn't sign an incorrect document, so I crossed out that rule and we both initialed it (after a nearby warden confirmed it was no longer a rule)

Youd think they'd spend the couple bucks to update the supplies as opposed to hand out and asking people to sign out dated documents.

I've also seen the same rule list laminated at a few access points - also out of date.

Re: how many people by law are allowed on a interior site?

Like Peek said, Sand Lake gate has these outdated stickers.  I have mentioned it often (over 2 years now) and like Peek, I scratch the rule out and get it initialed.  The girl this past Canada Day weekend told me they would never give a ticket for more than 3 tents, etc.

Re: how many people by law are allowed on a interior site?

I just received the following by email. It confirms that there is no tent # restriction on interior campsites in the park ......

Good Morning Mr. Bridgeford

Thank you for your email regarding shelter limitations on interior campsites in Algonquin Provincial Park. I am pleased to respond on behalf of Greg Wake.

As you have referenced, Section 19(1) and 19(2) of Regulation 347/07 under the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act limits equipment to not more than three pieces of shelter equipment (of which only one can be a tent trailer/camping unit), one dining shelter and one tarp used for shelter. This limitation applies to campground campsites (located in operating parks) and unserviced campsites (located in non-operating parks) only.

This restriction does not apply to interior campsites.

We will take this opportunity to remind our park staff of the regulations pertaining to interior campsites and shelter equipment.

... Thank you.

Re: how many people by law are allowed on a interior site?

I did get it at Sand Lake gate.  I went back through the few permits I still have and I got the same sticker from Basin (Bonnechere Park office) a few years back.  I usually don't pay too much attention, so I wouldn't have noticed any major differences between the stickers at different accesses.

Re: how many people by law are allowed on a interior site?

I also had occasion to notice that the 'old rule' is still being promoted by some parts of the park, either mistakenly or inadvertently. The latest Information Guide (2019-2020) still has the incorrect reference on page 27. It could be a case of an old 'template' file being used. It could also be the reason why some staff are assuming it continues to be the rule. Regardless, it could either put-off some people from bringing numerous smaller tents, or it could negatively impact the experience of some people who are over the old 'limit'. I've again contacted the park, asking them to correct the next issue of the guide.

I've forwarded an email to park management that I previously received in 2017 ...
