Roof Rack

Does anyone have any roof rack recommendations for carrying a canoe on a small car with no roof rails (Ford Focus)?

We've used the foam pads before between outfitter and access point but we've had 2 blow offs (not completely off but more of a slip). It was in super windy conditions and the canoes were tied properly (both times tied by the outfitter).

We rent right at the access point where we can but we have an opportunity to inherit a canoe for puttering around home and we'd need to bring it from Parry Sound to Guelph.

Is there any place that rents proper racks or are we looking at just buying foam blocks and taking backroads all the way?

Re: Roof Rack

I did the foam blocks for years and finally invested in a set of Thule bars and towers witha set of Yakima gunnel brackets and do not regret it.
Unless you can fond a set used on kijijji bit if a steep entry price but woth it for the security. Passing and being passed by big trucks on a windy day no longer causes me to panic as the canoe just stays put.
